Recommend this profile to your Facebook friends. personal messageHi, Everybody! My full name is Joe Louis Brown, Jr., but the people closest to me call me either "cheek" or "joe". I was born in Manhatten, NY, and raised in the Bronx. My mother's name is Sadie; she passed away in a car accident in September, 1990. My father's name is Joe. My parents separated when I was five years old, and later divorced. My mother had the challenging task of raising six boys in the mean streets of the Bronx, and she did it without any of us seeing the inside of a jail. My mother impressed upon all of us the importance of education. All six of us finished high school. Several of us have undergraduate degrees. I have a Bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland, and a law degree from Atlanta Law School. I have been a licensed attorney since October 27, 1992. I have my own law office in Decatur, GA [ten minutes east of Atlanta]. My law office web site is joelouisbrown.com. It is a small office, and that suits me just fine. My areas of practice are criminal law, family law, personal injury law, and civil litigation. My passion is music. I have been singing since I heard my parents humming to songs when I was a kid. My favorite singer is Michael Jackson. I have spent my life trying to sing like him. I don't sound like him, though; I am a 3rd tenor. However, I have been told that I have a good voice. Presently, I sing and play guitar with the up-and-coming r&b band E-Z Access, with the male chorus of Destiny World Church, and on my own solo recording project. More about that later. I have played guitar since I was thirteen years old, and I have gotten pretty good at it. Jimi Hendrix is my guitar idol. When people hear me play, they always compare me to Prince, but it is Jimi that I am emulating. I have many of Hendrix's recordings and videos, and I try to not only play like him, but also to move like him. When I do that, though, people see Prince. I also play bass guitar and keyboards. I have been writing songs since I was twelve. After playing in several bands, I have concluded that I have to release my music as a solo artist. This is not my preference. I would rather be part of a band that makes records. However, lately it seems damn near impossible to get a band together and keep it together. The band that I currently play with, E-Z Access, has seen many people come and go, and this has resulted in much frustration for everybody in the band. I will record as a solo artist under the pseudonym "Cheek Brown", and with E-Z Access when things get more stable with E-Z Access. Please look out for my music. I have studied karate for many years, and have been a black belt in American Karate since December 21, 2001. I have been interested in karate since seeing Bruce Lee on the Green Hornet as a kid; however, finances kept me from getting formal training until right after I passed the Georgia Bar. In fact, it was my law practice that was a primary motivation for pursuing karate. One day I was in a judge's chambers in DeKalb County Superior Court with my client, my client's soon-to-be ex-husband, and the judge. We were seeking an uncontested divorce, and everything seemed to be going fine at first. Then in a moment, my client's husband flipped. He started seething, and he said some very unkind things to me. The judge told him to call down, and he said the same things to the judge. The judge immediately had him put in a cell. That same day I started looking for a karate school. I have been attending American Karate Productions in Tucker, GA ever since. Wow, I've been going on and on! To wrap it up, I'd like to give all honor and glory to Jesus Christ. Without Him, I would have been dead a long time ago. I owe EVERYTHING to Him. Hey, contact me. Let's get to know each other. favorite pages

From the look on his face, he clearly expected me to back-up and let him have the pump. The thought of turning the other cheek (no pun intended) entered my mind. For a moment I thought about backing up and letting him have the pump. However, the thought that he felt entitled to have that pump was too much for me. After a... (continue reading) Yes We Can!Posted All of my life I believed that this country would have a black president ... someday. Would I see it in my lifetime? I could only hope. Now, it looks like the dream is coming true. We are living in a historic time. Obama is leading McCain, and I know that he is just getting started. He is certainly my choice for the next president of the United States. What do you think about him? [I know that who a person votes for is an intensely private matter, and you don't have to say who you are... (continue reading) |
