In 1984, I was pretty much sure of the career I wanted for myself. It was a professional baseball player. I majored in business as a back up plan if I didn't become a professional baseball player. Towards the end of 1984, even with my baseball accomplishments, I realized my dreams had shattered. It definitely wasn't because of me. I gave it my all. I progressed each of my four years at Temple University. I became the number one player in NCAA division one hitting 13 triples in 1984. I've been trying since 1985 to tell my story but I just couldn't get it out due to lack of time. I was building my company but as the years went by, I would say to myself I have to tell my story. I have to get my book out. Now, finally after 23 years this is my story. This is the truth. What I have faced and went through my 46 years of existence. You walk in my shoes and see if you can handle the trials and tribulations. You have to dare yourself to be different. You have to want to be different. As a child you say to yourself, "I want to be like Mike." "I want to be a doctor." No! you say to yourself , "I want to be different, I want to be better than Mike." "I want to be the best doctor in the world." By being different, scrutiny comes along with that. It's hard to be understood just because you don't do the same as others. The reason why you are misunderstood because you work so hard to be different. The ones who are doing the scrutinizing are all the same. They don't want to be different. You are your own person. I like to think there are two kinds of people in the world. There are leaders and there are followers. Which one are you? I like to think leaders will try to find a way to make their own path. It's hard at times because a leader will always have haters near your path. They will always try to stop your success. On the other hand, followers are not sure if they want to be leaders or not.
