The Hip to My Hop
You are the background to who I am, the hard ground on which I stand
The filler of the hole which makes me complete
The rhythm of my heart carries the same beat.
In the beginning they put you last, and said you wouldn't last.
But now at long last, the blasts from the past serve as indications of the future
Your potential is unsurpassed.
You are the culture which shapesmy way, my sunshine on a rainy day
The voice that's always in my head
The Shepard who herds the dismayed & mislead.
When times were hard on you they put the blame, whenfacing the darker side of our shame
Your participants charged it to the game...and it was declined
Double Loss, Snake eyes in a craps game.
You are the builder or bridges & bonds, the call to which I respond
The vegetables, the bread, the milk & the meat,
The chocolate that melts in my mouth so sweet.
Now, the time to grind and project the sublime has come & passed but left the wholeworld saying One Time!
At the drop of a dime, In commercials they rhyme
Using what was at one time the voice of the disenfranchised.
You are the pillar of my community, the sperm & egg that breeds unity
The maker of dreams that really come true
The creator of the stars that all people pursue.
If the world asks what's the hip to my hop, I tell them look around and observe the cash crop, of masterful minds that can' be stopped, that came all the way from the bottom to the top.
