Why do black people like to claim that they are mixed?

First you complain and then you praise them for being mixed?

Quoting you:
"people be proud of what you are..whether you are mixed with alot of dif thinhgs or not...lol "

You don't make any sense.......

Quoting you:
"as far as im concerned my mom is black, my dad was black so thats what i am..lol "

Your dad was black? What color was he before he got left in the oven to long?

"I never hear hispanic or asians aor caucasians talking about it."

Yes, they do. Latinos, and Asians ALWAYS 'claim' to be white and native american. Caucasians ALWAYS 'claim' to be mixed with native american.

Some of us are 'programmed'( I got that word from another thread) to think that black women just wear weave in our hair all the time. When I was a youngster I got ask alot about my hair being real.

actually, many a 'hapa' , half asian/half white (typically) are QUICK to point out they're 'halfies' (my wife is chinese and she knows some few hapas that do this.)

mexican hispanic mestizos try to claim straight up 'white', when its CLEAR they are either mixed white/native, or all native. in fact, they have a saying: mejorando la raza, or bettering the race. that means, when you can, marry white.

the 'typical' black , alas, doesnt have long, or reddish, or 'straight' hair naturally. its not as bad a question as you may think.

you're young now, but there was a time when i asked women if they were REALLY women. yep...i ran into VERY convincing transvestites. so, i'd ask 'can you have kids?' as a way to find out if they were 'really women'.

"people be proud of what you are..whether you are mixed with alot of dif thinhgs or not...lol "

actually, you can truly never be 'proud' or 'ashamed' of something you didnt control.

" my friend says wheneve she meets boys that she is black white native american and korean.. -_- i know of course thats exxagerated..."

do you know all 4 of her grandparents??? what are each one of them mixed with??? if is possible and the most likely mix would be her father's parents are black father/korean mother, and her mother's parents are white father/native american mother... those 2 mixed marriages occur in the usa more than we think (or would like to admit to)... if all 4 of her grandparents are of a different race, what do ou expect her to consider herself???

it is a known, accepted historical fact that hispanics and latinos are racially mixed... they don't have to say so... in their countries and cultures there census race classifications reflect their mixed-ness... mestizo is a common classification in south america, it comes from the root word mixed (mixtus in latin)...

the problem in america is that many mixed people do not have a separate classification, they (until recently) had to choose only one of their races as primary identifier... which most commonly is black...

like it or not, a lot of black people are mixed... the problem is some are not ashamed to openly admit it...

i would suggest that you find out what the other 3 grandparents are...

here's a tip on that... if they don't have many pics, it might be beause they don't want to show the 'otherness' of those grandparents, especially if they are operating as a black family... (unfortunately, i know about this one from personal experience)

okay, so suppose she is exaggerating...

as long as she acknowledges that she is at least partially black, she is not hurting anybody...

I don't think theres anything wrong with your opinion. But truth is most of us African Americans are mixed with something whether we know it or not. But one thing we all have to realize is black is no longer a race anymore, it can be seen as a cultural connection or ethnicity but reality is most of us are not just black.

Yes some more than others and me personally even though I can trace my families lineage to Native American and even white the majority of my ancestors are black and thats all I've ever identified myself as because I have no living White or Native American ancestors and culturally I'm African American and proud to be just like I'm proud to be Black. And I don't feel that me not claiming the 10% of native or white blood is a crime.... So baby girl continue to be BLACK AND PROUD.

Peace all...

I feel you Camaillaa on what you are saying. While there are many black folks mixed with many things, there are a whole hell of a lot claiming extra shyt that they are not.

My very own nephew has gone between being black & italian to black & cuban, puerto rican. Now he just calls himself Dominican. He's my nephew so I know good and well he aint got a damn drop of spanish in him! He's even gone so far as to be talking to a latina chick via IM and asking me to translate for him... come on!!

Why is it even necessary?
