This group is called, "Black People Supporting Each Other." This group is basically for those black folk who know the true significance in supporting each other in spite of all other obstacles that we continue to face on a daily basis. Of course each of us have our own trials and tribulations to bear whether it based on our ov- erall character towards one another, or those of other ethnic groups. Former Pan Africanist leader, Marcus Garvey, made this statement during his day, "A race without authority is a race without respect." This man said a mouth full. Former president Ronald Reagan made a statement during his presidency that went like this, "Black people are the only group of people that will support everyone else except each other." This is a pretty sad statement made by a former president of the United States of America, isn't it? Perhaps what is most devastating is how some of us continue to feed into this negative stereotype on a daily basis along with other stereotypes made by others. No matter how much integration Dr. Martin Luther KIng, Jr. and other black activists fought for us during their day, black people will remain on the bottom of the totem pole until we start proving ourselves to each other, and not just the white man. Why do I make this statement? Look around the corner in the average black neighborhood, and tell me who owns most of the businesses in our communities? You, then, wonder why there is so much black on black crime within our own neigh- borhoods. No! I am not an authority on black life and culture, and neither are you since we all come from different backgrounds. All each of us can possibly do is make assumptions and suggestions based on our own experiences as a black individual. If other groups of people can support each other, then why can't we? Whether you are a black female or male, who are you? What do you do? Do you need some sup- port? I am a published freelance writer of poetry, articles, and essays. I also write short stories. I am a cartoonist, bodybuilder, and into caricatures. Again, can we support each other? C'mon, this is an old issue that has always been a problem with some of us. One of my most recent accomplishments is a self published book of poetry which was completed in June 2009. The title of my book is, "Traveling Through Another Man's Mind - Poems & Phrases for Thought." I have successfully started a discussion and group on blacks supporting each other on another black owned website. I would like to do it here as well on Remember the old saying, "If you can't say anything good, don't say anything at all." I would like to say something good about some of the people on HAVE A GOOD DAY!
