Do You Know Someone Who Is Interested In Gaining The Hands On Training And Skills To Make It In New York City's Vibrant, Diverse And Fast Paced Culinary Arts Industry?
Culinary Arts Certificate Training Program at Kingsborough Community College provides students with hands-on training in Food Preparation and the skills to earn state and nationally recognized certificates in Food Safety and Food Production. Students will be introduced to the various components of the Food Service Industry, including fundamental cooking terminology, techniques and theories all while learning by professional industry chefs in our state of the art demonstration kitchens.
Participants who successfully complete this program will earn NRAEF Servsafe, NYC Department of Health Food Handlers Certificate and the Food Safety and Sanitation Certification. Credits earned can be applied to a Culinary Arts A.A.S. (Associate in Applied Science).
For one low $100 program fee, students receive:
ü Training that will prepare them for employment in the field of food service or culinary arts.
ü Employment readiness services and job placement assistance.
ü Career counseling, college advisement and academic support.
ü Opportunity to bank up to 9 college credits, applicable towards an Associate of Applied Science in Tourism and Hospitality or Culinary Arts at Kingsborough Community College.

Minimum Eligibility Criteria:
Adult, 18 years or older with either a High School Diploma or GED. Demonstrated academic and/or English language instruction needs. Not currently enrolled in a college or training program. Legally authorized to work in the United States. Unemployed, a dislocated or TAA-eligible worker, or a worker at risk of losing a job or seeking career advancement. Other eligibility requirements may apply.

DUTIES:

What are the Major Duties of this Position? Provides supervision, care and correctional treatment of inmates. Incumbent is concerned with maintenance of institution security contributing to the health and welfare of the inmates and the promotion of good public relations. Enforces rules and regulations governing facility security, inmate accountability and inmate conduct to ensure judicial sanctions are carried out and inmates remain in custody. From time to time, may be authorized to carry firearms and to use physical force, including deadly force, to maintain control of inmates. During institution emergencies or other periods of heavy workload or limited staff, may be required to work long and irregular hours, unusual shifts, Sundays, holidays and unexpected overtime. Information as to operations and procedures is provided by post orders, BOP program statements, local supplements, custodial manual, internal correspondence and staff meetings. Incumbent must be flexible and have a broad knowledge base to use own initiative in the resolution of problem situations.
