Senior Buyer

The Sr. Buyer role will be responsible to deliver consumer benefit driven product innovation for Sleep Numbers Bedding Collection. This position will be charged with building an expansive product roadmap to meet consumer s sleep needs and improve upon their individual sleep experience. Requirements for this role are a strategic mindset, critical thinking, collaboration and execution with cross functional teams on behalf of the customer.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Bring forth meaningful innovations that strengthen Sleep Numbers Bedding Collection competitive advantage
    • Use consumer insight to develop product positioning and key messaging to engage customers
    • Understand current and emerging trends in the industry and with the competition
    • Partner with vendors upfront to identify and develop exclusive products
    • Manage vendor matrix, build and maintain strong vendor relationships
    • Build expansive product roadmap with meaningful sleep solutions
  • Financial planning and forecasting to deliver results for total bedding collection
    • Develop annual financial plans and budgets to support bedding collection goals
    • Monthly/weekly financial forecasting and analysis to identify opportunities for sales and margin
    • Assortment planning to increase productivity (styleouts, category and class plans)
  • Motivate, lead and champion the efforts of cross-functional teams
    • Partner with internal and external teams to ensure seamless execution
    • Provide communication, direction and support to cross-functional team as required (sales force, visual merchandising, marketing, training, and retail operations)
  • Deliver end to end commercialization for the customer (interactive, marketing, signage, placement, promotions, sales training)
    • Lead and motivate cross-functional teams to deliver bold execution on new product
    • Drive awareness and consideration of bedding collection
    • Create promotional and pricing plans to achieve financial goals
    • Utilize product positioning and key messaging for new and existing product packaging
    • Compose features and benefits for signage, interactive experiences, marketing, packaging, and training
    • Enhance customers purchase experience with Sleep Number (returns, speed of delivery, brand experience)
    • Partner with visual and POG team to create the vision for the selling floor.
    • Evaluate performance to identify new opportunities. (product, promotions, in-store and execution)
  • Coach and develop high performing, result oriented team


7-10 years of buying/planning/product development experience: Home category background preferred

Proven ability to define, plan and execute strategies

Experience defining, developing and commercializing products for retail environments

Experience in coaching and developing direct report

Leading and motivating cross-functional support teams to drive results

Project management and organizational skills

Strong negotiation skills

Problem solving and self-starter skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Budget management skills

Financial strategy skills

Proficient in MS Office application

4-year business degree

MBA preferred

Travel as required
