personal message

this page is a lot like me...a work in progress...i`m an actor/poet/playwright/director /producer...

my aspiration is to figure what else i know how to do...i`m an excellent listener, a great cook, great friend & mentor to children...i love my community, my elders, strong affirming Black men who love, protect & respect black women...
currently, i'm a second-year MFA-Acting candidate at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. my concentration is Theatre for Cultural & Social Awareness. i'm very committed to the philosophy that theatre (particularly Black theatre) should serve as an initiation to solution-oriented dialogue in the community. simply put - we cannot fix what we are unwilling to face.

what if the real lesson in this whole piece
you're already teaching?
what if you're really not here to learn a thing?
what if i'm Creation's way of saying,
"all is forgiven - you have permission to love again?"
are you ready for your own prayers answered?

what if the real lesson is me loving you
past your smoke screens?
me - still wanting you to be at peace
long enough to see that the piece i bring
is peace
& the door between my thighs
is just one of many - to my heart?

what if i wanted you to write some poetry
just for me?
what if i wanted you to sing me a song
a simple melody to put me to sleep
on your back - could you get with that?

didn't you know that when you ask
you receive?
so, how could you not conceive that if:
it looks like...
feels like...
sounds like...
this thing called us just very well may be?

what if i'm really her, love?
is that the worst thing that can happen in your life?
what if i'm your slice of heaven?
your everlasting lover? your favorite wife?

does that scare you like it does me?
will we get it right this time?
will you always love we?

this wasn't supposed to be a poem
just some stuff i was thinking...

see, i'm scared, too - so i was wondering if you
could see what i see when you blink
& i stand before you?

are you ready for your own prayers answered?
are you ready for a dream come true?
what if the lesson in all of this is just
how much i love you?

communication is necessary for my healing

i have gotten away from blogging. not that i don't enjoy it...i've just allowed the rigors of academia to separate me from it.

my New Year's commitment (i don't make 'resolutions') to self is to gift myself all of the things that center me. over my semester break, i got a chance to spend it with my best friend of 50 years...yeah, we've known each other since kindergarten. we played...something that i've forgotten how to do. i mean we had some serious sister-girl time. it was rejuvenating! as... my last official day as an undergraduate was Thursday December 18, 2008 @ 3:30 pm. that was my last final in-class. i still had a Shakespeare final due by midnight. it was in by 10:20 pm. i played Zuma for the rest of my shift at work. my brain is FRIED, fam! i have been in near-comatose sleep ever since. i went to sleep on Christmas eve - woke up on the first day of Kwanzaa. some real Rip Van Winkle type ish, feel me?

but hold up...why the people wanna give me free money for... (continue reading)

2 truths and a lie

Two of these are true about me. No joke. Which one's the lie? Take a guess...

Thank you so much my EXTREMELY BEAUTIFUL SISTER for your kind words on my blog, it means so much to me coming from someone who is as accomplished as your are.

Your are a living testimony and proof positive that when one has clean thoughts, a righteous God centered spirit coupled with clean living, good looks and true beauty are ageless!

I bow and submit to the majesty that dwells within you shamelessly because you are the Heaven on earth that our mighty wise & omnipotent God has provided for us!

Sincerely,
Lance "Scurv" Scurvin
