A Tribute to Mothers

A mother's fragrance, like none other
Fresh as the morning dew
She is the scent of genuine love
Priceless, being made anew

So soft is her warm embrace
A pearl kiss to my face
Her crown jewels of silver hair
Spectacularly binned about with lace

Her heart hold treasures forever more
Her mind a thousand memories for sure
Perhaps her smile fades with soft wrinkles
Her eyes diminished of the twinkle

She has endured the scars of yesterday
The battle fought long during her stay
As each step subside, her gleem her glide
Yet still she rise, to calm the racing tides.

Ode to My Father

There was something about my father that made me want to know him more. Maybe it was the way he picked me up and held me close, every time he walked through the door.

Or could it have been the way he let me snuggle beside him when I fell asleep, right before I prayed "I lay me down my soul to keep."

I remember trying to pull his gold teeth with my little fingers as if they would, and put the gold in my mouth just because I thought I could.

Remembering the gray hair that dusted his face and the large rugged hands that shielded me with his embrace.

I never knew how hard my daddy worked, as the sweat ran down his brow, but every day I ran to meet him coming home from a long days plow.

I knew a daddy that loved me a thousand times more, that held me and kissed my mama too, and loved her just as much as I do.
