Just when you thought the Dru World Order was about to end, here comes another installment of the soulful, hip hop, R&B sound which is synonymous with this multi-platinum group. Only this time, the magical vocals and vibrant energy is emerging from one man, one name Scola!
Rufus "Scola" Waller was born and raised in Baltimore MD. He describes himself as "a rose that grew from a crack in the concrete". Growing up on the mean streets of Baltimore's West Side, Scola soon realized the streets weren't for him. Being a big fan of several musical legends, Scola started singing. As a child he would sing, play the drums, guitar, keyboard; anything he could get his hands on that made a sound. And, all without any formal training.
In 1996, Scola recorded and released an independent album, which spawned his first hit single, "Let's Get Personal." Impressed by Scola's velvety sound, the single gained tremendous response from fans and local listeners, and earned him widespread regional airplay, and helped to establish Scola as an amazingly talented artist, and a new force to be reckoned with.
In 2000, Scola was signed to Rock The Bells Records (founded by Hip-Hop Legend, L.L. Cool J) unfortunately, the label did not take off and Scola was released.
However, that little setback didn't stop Scola's determination and he continued to move forward with his music career. Then in 2002, having been longtime friends with some other talented young men from Baltimore, Scola became a member of one of R&B's most successful group Dru Hill. With Scola's silky smooth voice, hypnotizing sound, and incredible songwriting skills; not to mention his thuggish style with a gentleman's twist. Scola was everything the group needed to enhance their sound and send a deeper message to their audience.
Scola immediately made his presence felt when he penned the hit song "I Love You", for the album, 'Dru World Order', which was certified Platinum, and displayed even more of the timeless emotions made previously evident by the group's successful history.
Scola's additional songwriting credits include the song, "Don't Stop", performed by the group Ruff Endz and also "My Homie" and "No Matter What" , performed by Woody Rocks, along with many other great artists.
Scola also has even been known, to lend his pretty-thuggish looks and hard, chiseled body to music videos, from time to time. To his credits, Scola has been cast as the leading man next to Mary J. Blige, Eve, Jill Scott and more. His hot single, "Let's Get Personal", was featured in the Motion Picture 'ATL', staring rap superstar T.I.Scola's gained even more acting experience, when he landed a lead role in the Detroit city stage play "What Momma Don't Know Won't Hurt". Scola plans to one day move his music video and acting experience into television and film.
In early 2008, Scola decided to step away from Dru Hill and regenerate his career as a solo artist. Scola released an independent, sexy love song CD called 'Scola's Lost Treasures', which features his recurring hit, "Let's Get Personal". Under the direction of his new management company, Mr.Baggs Entertainment, Inc., Scola will be releasing his debut solo album, coming in the fall of 2008.
