ENJOY THE MOVIE xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxooxoxoxoxooxoxoxoxo Curtis Mayfield (June 3, 1942 - December 26, 1999) was an African American soul, funk and R&B singer-songwriter and guitarist probably best known for his soundtrack to the blaxploitation film Superfly.

Cool Slideshows!
Mayfield's career began in 1956 when he formed The Roosters that later became The Impressions. In 1970, Mayfield left The Impressions and began a solo career, founding the independent record label Curtom Records. Curtom would go on to release most of Mayfield's landmark 1970s records, as well as records by The Impressions, Leroy Hutson, The Staple Singers, Mavis Staples and Baby Huey and the Babysitters. Many of these records were also produced by Mayfield. The commercial and critical peak of his solo career came with his 1972 album Curtis Mayfield - Superfly, the soundtrack to the blaxploitation film of the same name, and one of the most influential albums in history. In the hip hop scene, he is still one of the most sampled artists; both musically and lyrically. Those lyrics were "soundtrack" - milestones of the black civil right movement in the 60`s and 70`s; political, but always with a very poetic kind of view, combined with Mayfield`s spiritual and religious background. "This man has brought us what growing up was all about, blacks loving blacks, hatred from the whites, learning the inner love from our sisters, and the soul from our brothers and sisters that gave us great music and he was the inner mecca of it all"
