Born and raised in Oakland, California, KHARI (pronounced Kah-REE) has been writing poetry all of his life. He exploded onto the Spoken word poetry scene during the summer of 2006. A visit to Mouth Off (a spoken word poetry venue held at Oakland's Air Lounge every Wednesday) is where his transformation from occasional poem writer to spoken word artist/ slam poet took place. Four years later, he's sold THOUSANDS of CDs, written and published a best-selling poetry book and shared the stage with some of the top spoken word artists and entertainers in the country.
He's also been featured and performed at some of the top spoken word venues in the nation, including Spoken Soul Sessions in New Orleans during the Essence Music Festival, the Nuyorican in New York, and Cafe Nuba in Denver. Within a two year period, he has performed at over 100 different venues and is currently in high demand to perform and feature at major spoken word events. By no means are you experiencing a typical spoken word poet when listening to Khari. He's a commanding presence in any room and bleeds his heart and soul into the mic when he spits!
