Khalil is a producer/songwriter who has been lurking around in the underground music scene for years, starting out in Italy in the mid 80's, and producing tracks in countries like France, Denmark, The Netherlands, Germany, Austria and many other European countries. He's done work all over the US as well, from Washington, DC and Baltimore, where he grew up, to California, Newark, NJ and New York City. He released his debut EP, titled Blu House Sol in 2007 while still producing tracks for up and coming artists.
He wrote, recorded, produced, arranged and engineered all pieces in his debut compilation @ 2Ply Records in San Diego, California, an independent record label and production company owned by local Indie Rock veteran Wes Freeland, where he has worked as an engineer, producer and VP/Operations. Currently, he is gearing up to launch a music production library in 2008, and has been hard at work in his own lab making new tracks for licensing to film, radio, and advertising professionals, as well as producers and artists looking for fresh new tracks.
Khalil cites his influences as too numerous to name, but artists like Chic, Barry White, Miles Davis, Soul II Soul, Les Nubians and Sade, to name but a few, are among the ones he draws constant influences from. But he is quick to point out: "Anything I hear that draws me in, that resonates within my soul, which touches me, I draw influence from in my work. I hear rhythm on city street traffic; I hear lyrics in everyday conversation and observation of people. I love all kinds of music, but for me, people are music. Life is the canvas, and emotion is the paint, the color of music. And for that reason, artists that I've either produced or collaborated with over the years have had the greatest impact on me as an artist, and as a professional".
You can find Khalil plying his trade, Production, Engineering and Songwriting, at New York/NJ area recording studios. His company, BluBlak Music, , handles production of House, Hip Hop, Dancehall, and R&B. In addition to production, BluBlak Music is also active in Music Publishing and Music Business consulting, which ranges from Record Contract analysis to Independent Record Label business planning, setup and marketing.
