New York, NY - With her debut album, EAST SIDE STORY set for an August 28th release, J Records newest music sensation Emily King has been tapped to replace Corinne Bailey Rae on the second leg of the John Legend tour, beginning May 13th at the Verizon Wireless Theater in Houston, TX.
Honing her skills in front of finicky NYC audiences since the age of 16, Emily, now 21, is a young veteran to the stage with performances alongside Nas, Common, Floetry and Lyfe Jennings under her belt. Continuously building legions of fans after each electrifying show, Emily's well-crafted set features songs from EAST SIDE STORY, including her new single "Colorblind," and the Bill Withers' classic, "Ain't No Sunshine."
EAST SIDE STORY brings together Emily's roots as a talented young New York-based singer-songwriter-musician with soul-drenched vocals and fluid beats. The offspring of two internationally renowned jazz singers, Emily was exposed to music since early childhood. The tough and loving streets of NYC's Lower East Side (where she still lives) were her nurturing ground and imparted a world view that can be felt on songs like "Colorblind" - a song that most directly addresses her experience as the child of a bi-racial marriage, and "Business Man" - a commentary on heart less capitalists. Emily King brings music forward by taking it back to its roots with modern-day boom-bap rhythms and introspective lyrics reminiscent of the singer-songwriter explosion of the 70's.
