A laid back sista from Harlem, NY. To all my family and friends still in the NY, I love you! Well I have made it, 20 years in the N A V Y (Never Again Volunteer Yourself). It has been more than experience, it has been an adventure! Smiling. It is truly a blessing to grow up in the streets of Harlem and be told you never amount to anything because of where you live and breathe, to be able to look back and say look at me now. At the tender age of 38, I have been able to retire from the Navy. That is an accomplishment all by itself. Though i cant sit back and not work it is still a pleasure and benefit to be part of the military retirees. I am proud to have served. For all those who doubted or adapted the crab mentality, understand no weapon formed against me shall prosper. For those young men and women growing up in the same environment I have, I am a living example that you can move on and become anything you desire to be regardless of where you live, the color of your skin, etc.. Plus now you have Barack Obama to look to, who came from very humble upbringings and still beat the odds and became the first African-American President. To God be the glory! Remember the only one that can stop you, is you. I wont lie there will be peaks and valleys but you must stay focus and overcome. There will be haters, temptations, and obstacles that will try to detain you but you must continue to strive on. Know your worth, and let NO ONE put a limit on it. Understand that worth is not by the shallow means that many manifest in their minds to make them better than the next (ex: looks, wealth, materials things) but is by God's love and His justification of your well being. You are His creation. Inside and out. It is what you believe and have faith in and know that God is your source. I hope in this all, that at least one person is touched because that will start the domino effect of divine intervention. Im grateful to have made this journey and be able to put an end to this chapter. Thank you to the Navy for all you have done to make me the person I am today. So to civilian life, here I come, you better watch out! Everything is everything! Its gonna be alright!

How we got from Yes We Can to Yes We Did

From the time that we were made from the soils of Africa
and were name Afrikaans
We knew in our minds, hearts and souls
Yes We Can
From the time we came from the Mother land
and set feet upon American land
We knew in our minds, hearts and souls
Yes We Can
Through the years of slavery
under an ungodly upper hand
We knew in our minds, hearts and souls
Yes We Can
Regardless of captivity, we still Praised God, created,
invented, found the underground railroad and ran
We knew in our minds, hearts and souls
Yes We Can
From the moment Martin Luther King Jr.
was born and became a man
We knew in our minds, hearts, and souls
Yes We Can
From the back of the bus to the front
when Rosa Parks took a stand
We knew in our minds, hearts, and souls
Yes We Can
Through obstacles, setbacks, conspiracy and possible genocide
we keep our heads up and understand
To continue to know in our minds, hearts, and souls
Yes We Can
With his humble unbringings, mixed heritage and not without challenge to his goal. This man received numerous votes from all nationalities, races, creed, color, etc., to become first Black president, We give God the glory, We take the bid
For all of us to have imbedded in our minds, hearts, and souls,
Yes We Did

An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity. Martin Luther King

A good woman is proud of herself. She respects herself and others. She is aware of who she is. She neither seeks definition from the person she is with, nor does she expect them to read her mind. She is quite capable of articulating her needs. A good woman is hopeful. She is strong enough to make all dreams come true. She knows love, therefore she gives love. She recognizes that her love has great value and must be reciprocated. If her love is taken for granted, it soon disappears. A good woman has a dash of inspiration, a dabble of endurance. She knows that she will, at times have to inspire others to reach the potential God gave them. A good woman knows her past, understand her present and moves toward the future. A good woman knows God. She knows that with God the world is her playground, but without God she will just be played. A good woman does not live in fear of the future because of her past. Instead, she understands that her experiences are merely lessons, meant to bring her closer to self knowledge and unconditional self love.

Proud to be Me

Dear Lord
I thank thee
For giving life
from the top of my head to the soles of my feet
To give me
another day to be
To ingest
what's been given so gracefully
How grateful
I am for every bit of prosperity
For everytime
you have fulfill my needs
though i dont deserve
you still bless abundantly
As i cry
from my own insecurities
You wipe away my tears
and show me heaven's eyes of beauty
I pray that
everyone can grasp this mercifully
How deep
your love can be
You captured
my mind, soul and body
Nothing greater
mentally or physically
No words
can express my sincerity
For whats
been given so unconditionally
For now when
I look in the mirror daily
I can truthfully say
Im proud to be me
