Yeah, just wondering what would have been the nation's reaction had Mrs. King been around and declined the invitations for the unveiling ceremony of the King monument on the mall and the inauguration?

In 1999, the King family conducted a civil case to consider the existence of an assassination conspiracy. The suit (for wrongful death) mentioned only Loyd Jowers by name, but also alleged government involvement.

The jury?six blacks and six whites?found that King had been the victim of assassination by a conspiracy involving the Memphis police as well as federal agencies. This verdict affirmed Ray's innocence, which the King family has always maintained.

William F. Pepper represented the King family in the trial. The family requested a mere $100 in restitution to show that they were not pursuing the case for financial gain.

Although there are other more reliable sources, this excerpt comes from the following link:

Ok. I think i see where you are coming from on why she would have possibly declined an invitation.

my opinion is that she would have accepted the invitation to attend. I think that b/c regardless of who murdered her dear husband, her dear husband's dream... many of our dreams... was not in vain and is to this day a work in progress ongoing still. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a martyr for the movement. The hopes that he spoke of were the desires of many hearts. That will never die. Hope endures. I think that she would have attended to honor, not only her dear husband, but those who supported the movement to bring about positive change for a nation...albeit a nation whose foundation is ... historically horrific and traumatic...yet the human spirit strives for peace health prosperity, joy, security, love, equality freedom, etc... that's what we cherish...not only for ourselves, but for all of us. In spite of who murdered her dear husband, she would have attended to show that we are not failures in accomplishing the dream. we are only failures when we cease trying. when we are seeking something, it is always in the last place we looked lol

Mrs. King never remarried, and raised four children alone, as the rest of us and the world just seemed to move on by, in our hustle for the overabundance that lay before us for the bloodshed.

As a group in this country, we don?t seem to recall enough how to treat ourselves, family, one another, and our leaders and martyrs. I think we have been woefully lacking in these regards and it hasn't put us in a good light.

Respect is not given, it's earned. Not by what you receive, but what you demand. Mrs. King could have been treated anywhere she wanted in this country for her illness. Yet, she sought medical treatment in Mexico where she died. I often wondered about that.

Some people have long memories
Some memories are short
Some people seldom remember
Some people seldom forget

I?m sure she simply missed her husband and the father of her children.

no, i don't think she reared her four young ones alone. i think she had a strong sense of family and community. i think she was the head of her household and a strong black woman, but i'm sure she had help from family and friends.

also, u must remember that the ama does not permit homeotherapies aka nature's rememedies for illeness and i'm sure that she was informed enough to understand that the radiation and chemo would be more harmful that helpful. but in the end, we all have to face our Creator, regardless. He does have the last say so. and when it's time to go home, it's time to go home

i'm sure she missed her dear husband awfully bad and i'm sure she would not scar her husband's memory by bringing another man over their children mostly b/c of his legacy... who could hold a candle to him? idk, but she apparently chose not to bring in some man to integrate over their children.

... i reckon
