personal message

JORGE VEGA (creator/writer) is a playwright, a children's book author and comic book writer from Brockton, MA. He is married with two children and an inflated mortgage. Having worked within the independent comic community, both in print and online, for a number of years Jorge is excited to get the chance to work with a major publisher like Platinum Studios.

Here's video of Jorge delivering the pitch for his upcoming graphic novel, GUNPLAY, to a panel of celebrity judges at the 2007 "Comic Book Challenge":

"Sandalwood, nickel and blood; folks say that's how the West was won. For one man, Abner Meeks, that's how a soul was lost."

Jorge Vega's GUNPLAY is the haunting, bullet riddled tale of a Buffalo Soldier condemned to roam the Big Empty with a hellish curse slung at his waist-- a demonic shooting iron that forces Abner to kill once a day or suffer soul searing pain. His only salvation lies in earning the trust of a boy he's never met, a boy with an agonizing secret of his own, and Abner has just gunned down that boy's father.

This four issue mini-series invites readers to ride alongside Abner and the boy, revealing how the black cavalryman fell victim to the gun and how an adolescent faith healer brought death to an entire township. Under a scorching western sun, their hostile relationship will be transformed with the boy not only offering companionship to a lonely soul but providing Abner with the moral compass that will guide his curse, transforming the gunman from desert nightmare to high plains folk hero.

Posted January 29th, 2008 at 06:49pm

While it's still a couple of days from official-official, I'm semi-officially entering into an agreement with the cats at "Secret Bunker" screen printing. They're interested in producing a series of Gunplay inspired Buffalo Soldier shirts.

We're hoping to make the shirts available in time for Wizard World LA where me, Dominic Vivona (Gunplay artist) and Donald Faison (star of 'Scrubs') will be selling signed copies of Gunplay for charity. The shirts... (continue reading)
