I AM CONSTANTLY AMAZED BY NOT ONLY THE CAREER MILITARY PERSONNEL WHO WILLINGLY DEFEND OUR COUNTRY WHEREVER THEY ARE SENT, BUT BY THE 19, 20, 21 YEAR OLDS WHO SERVE TWO AND THREE TOURS OF DEPLOYMENT IN IRAQ AND AFGHANASTAN. TO SEE, MEET, TALK TO A 25 YEAR OLD VETERAN IS INCREDIBLE TO ME. NOT TO MENTION HEARING THE STORIES OF THE CAREER SERVICE MEN AND WOMEN WHO HAVE HAD LONG CAREERS IN SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY.

I live with my dad who is very dear to me. I've lived with him for several years now. I initially decided to stay with my parents when my mom got sick about 5 years ago. I wanted to be close and to help my dad care for her. When she passed away, I couldn't bring myself to leave him alone, so here I am. I've never regretted the committment I've made to stick around....he's my dad! I love him and he's worth the sacrifices.

An island. I remember the island. You had sent an S.O.S....I answered it. I reminded you of those famous words...you know 'they say': "No man is an island." You were skeptical at first. Who could blame you?
It was very dark the night we met. No moon, no stars. You couldn't see anything except the thoughts inside your head. They provided no illumination for you, only more darkness. You said, "I'll live on this island forever. I see no way out."
It's distressing! I can't see anymore. My eyesight is the same. But my vision is gone! I close my eyes and I can't see.
It used to be that I could go to a quiet place, Simply by closing my eyes and visualizing, imagining, picturing Something that makes me happy....a place, a person, a memory. At any given moment, a visit to any of those could cheer me, calm me, make me stronger.
