I am pretty much an independent person; meaning that I am single, with no kids, I'm employed, have a car, and an apartment. I say "pretty much independent" because my mother plays a major role in my life. I am originally from Gainesville, FL , I have been living in Tallahassee for the past few years.
I have a personality that you will either love or hate. If you are familiar with the Myers-Brigg type indicator test my type is an INTP. I have an open mind, and I'm very analytical. I like to think and talk things out, looking at all sides and making logical decisions. I have no problem compromising. I get a joy for learning new things and discussing (or even debating) new concepts and ideas.
I am an avid sports fan. I enjoy attending sporting events and watching them on tv. Around the horn and PTI are on my daily viewing schedule. I also have a PS2 that I play on my free time. I don't club, but I do go out to listen to some jazz a few times a month. I also like attending plays and festivals. But most of my free time is spent at home, sometimes my friend and I will invite people over to my place and have an informal dinner and a movie. We like to try new recipes on our friends.
I am also a Christian. I grew up in a Pentecostal church, and I get a large part of my value system from biblical principles.
My screenname is ramtime because my high school's mascot was the ram. Below are just a few quotes that maybe can spark a discussion.
"Greatness"
by Zane Grey
These are the tests to true greatness; to bear up under loss, to fight the bitterness of defeat and the weakness of grief, to be a victor over anger, to smile when tears are close, to resist disease and evil man and basic instincts, to hate hate and to love love, to go on when it would seem good to die, to seek ever the glory and the dream, to look up with unquenchable faith, to something ever more about to be. These things, any man/woman, person, member of the human race, can do, and so, be great!
Soul Mate: a person who inspires you. Someone who pushes you to do better in that moment, and in every moment thereafter. Because your souls, the driving forces of your lives, are connected. - Iyanla Vanzant
It is a peculiar sensation, this double-consciousness, this sense of always looking at one's self through the eyes of others, of measuring one's soul by the tape of a world that looks on in amused contempt and pity. One ever feels this two-ness, -an American, a Negro; two souls, two thoughts, two unreconciled strivings; two warring ideals in one dark body, whose dogged strength alone keeps it from being torn asunder. -W.E.B DuBois
We are still trapped in the rigidity of notions of biological racial difference that presuppose pseudoscientific ideas of race. And the one-drop rule [whereby any black ancestors at all render one black] is still public policy. Whites assume that this is how blacks want it, and blacks continue to reproduce it socially for a variety of reasons-Naomi Zack
The antirace people therefore miss the point. Even if they show that race is a social construction...even if they show that races are pseudoscientific fictions, they still need to address the ways in which phenomena understood as a racial phenomena are lived. Not all black people know what races are, but they know what hatred of black people is. -Lewis Gordon
There is no Negro mission; there is no white burden...I have one right alone: That of not renouncing my freedom through my choices--I am not a prisoner of history. I should not seek there for the meaning of my destiny. -Frantz Fanon
Blacks as a group have been wronged, and are disadvantaged, by slavery and discrimination. Consequently, blacks as a group deserve compensation. -Bernard Boxill
Suffering can be endured and overcome, it cannot be repaid. Blacks cannot be repaid for the injustice done to the race, but we can be corrupted by society's guilty gestures of repayment. -Shelby Steele
