The Finest Urban Indie Label in the Midwest!

Rize & Shine Ent./SSR started out as the brainchild of Derrick Chilly Igloo Johnson & Kelvin Abso! Johnson who are first cousins. Music has been in their blood from and early age which led them to form Still Starvin Records where in early 2004 they released their first album Birthrite. Birthrite was a creative masterpiece with Igloo on the mic and Abso behind the boards. Birthrite featured production from platinum producers: Jamal Rashid (Monica So Gone), NO I.D. (Jay-Z Death of Autotune) and Xtreme (Ghostface ft Neo Back Like That). Birthrite moved 10,000 copies on the streets and gave Igloo and Abso! (Genetix) the opportunity to be nominated for the WGCI Hood Award Best Local Artist nomination for 2004. The next year in 2005 they released a compilation album/mixtape: Hunger Pains which moved over 3,000 units on the streets. With the release of the these two highly popular albums, other artists and producers were stating to take notice and were eager to join the team..Rize & Shine Entertainment was about to be born. As more artists and producers began to express interest in the fledgling label, Igloo had a vision in his sleep and was given the name Rize & Shine. Work quickly began to organize the company and Rize & Shine Entertainment/SSR was established. The initial idea was to give these artists a chance to bypass some of the trials and pitfalls that Genetix went through. These men understood what it was like trying to get on. The opportunity presented itself, and was seized. Self made and self contained SS Records, thrives on the mantra: No amount is ever enough! They pride themselves on having no weak links in the chain. All artists are currently working on projects, and each quarter will be ushered in by offerings from Chilly Igloo (CEO/ Writer/Artist), Kelvin "Absolut!" Johnson (VP/ Producer/ Writer), Temper (Rap Artist/Writer/ Performer), J.B. (Male R&B Vocalist/Writer/ Arranger/ Performer), Sean Shoota (Rap Artist/ Writer/ Performer), KOMPL3TE (Male R&B Group/Writer/Performer. With great talent comes great expectations, and there is so much anticipation from the public with the Rize & Shine Family. With the determination of a young Russell Simmons, Igloo is the ships captain and backed by a solid foundation, success is imminent for this burgeoning label.
