I truly loves the Lord and is commited to his purpose of Salvation. The following qualities, while not exhaustive, are non-negotiable:Are you committed? The core of the word committed means "binder" or "pledge" therefore; you should be capable of living up to one. You should demonstrate a lifestyle of fidelity in word and in deed. Simply stated, your words should be backed by your actions (Matthew 5:37). Are we compatible? Compatibility isn't necessarily about having identical personalities, as differences can compliment each other. But it is more about the importance of establishing the essentials. Initially, do we share similar core values? A common thread should our spiritual belief system. The Bible states, "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers?" (II Corinthians 6:14). Next, do we have similar lifestyles? Do we have a common balance when it comes to friends, finances, and social interests? Are you trustworthy? Honoring promises is high on my list of requirements in being a person of integrity. If you are trustworthy, you will seek to respect your words and live up to them (Numbers 30:2). The foundation of any good, working relationship begins with trust. If you honor your words you are a priceless asset.
Are you faithful? A person who possesses this quality will demonstrate an allegiance towards God, me and others. In any environment, whether private or social, your standards remain stable and consistent. This character quality is a necessity towards building a solid relationship. It is not optional, but mandatory.Are you giving? This quality is not about giving material gifts, but about selfless behavior (John 3:16). You will be centered on giving of yourself and putting others first. You will demonstrate sensitivity towards me and my needs, and the ability to meet those needs. Most notably, you will promote opportunities for my growth and support me in them. You will delight in watching me grow and support my growth wholeheartedly.Many times people subconsciously search for personalities that are on their wavelength and sometimes it takes a while for people to realize they don't fit. As George Eliot stated in his quote about friendship: "keep what is worth keeping, and then with the breath of kindness blow the rest away." |
