i dont allow my past to decide my future.
please read this before you send a note, know who i am first.i've been in houston for about a year since the hurricane(u know which one), but i'm originally from new orleans.thats my son at the bottom, who i plan to give the world to. he's my entire world. nothing else matters unless he's involved. lost a few friends because he came first, but i could care less. thats his mother as well. she can be a pain in the %#&@$!, but we're still tight like brother and sister. she's relatively low in the drama department. i'm young, i'm black, and i was born and raised in the gutter. daddy didn't give a damn, mama wasn't very smart. never had anything, and where i was raised showed neither pity nor mercy. i was supposed to turn out to be nothing, except maybe a junkie, or jailbird, or killer, or killed. i have a son, but he was supposed to become a statistic, exactly what i should have been. but alas, i'm no junkie, well maybe some weed here or there. alas, i have not been to prison, well not since i was a juvinile, but thats behind me. alas, i have never taken a life, though i've wanted to on more than one occasion. and alas, i'm obviously not dead. my son lives with me, his father, and gets everything he needs, and much of what he wants. i'm obviously no angel, but i'm definately no statistic. i am a man. a young, black, responsible, MAN. a rare breed indeed. question:what conditions constitute ignorance and carelessness. i'm from the ghetto, not the hood, big difference. but i notice that most of the people from the same type of place dont make an effort to get out. what i mean is i was raised no different from them. no father, dumb mother, poverty, no one to tell me right from wrong, low educational standards and crooked cops. heard of at least 5 murders per week, two of which on average were in my neighborhood. yeah i got some stories. i have mixed feelings about this. on one hand, most of us are from many generations of these conditions, and in most cases, all one knows is what one's taught. even i fell into it for a spell. i did what i saw without a sense of consequence. it took me a very long time to figure things out for myself, because like them, no one taught me how to find a job, be a man or raise my kid. no one taught me to think for myself. but on the other hand, and a few folks may not like this, but i believe we are all in control of our lives. we all have minds and the ability to make choices. the right choices, and though most of us were'nt taught right from wrong, we all know the difference. we all have the desire and ability to live a better life, but few of us make the effort. i do believe socialism plays a part in the destruction of our youth, but no person can say they didn't know that something they did was illegal, and no one can say they had no choice. we all have the ability, we just choose not to try. our biggest problem is pure laziness. another part of me understands that this place was set up for us not to make it. think about it, they (those who actually run the country, not the government) understand our laziness. hold your breath, were going deep. first they make it hard for us by giving us low education, which keeps us out of politics, which leaves us at their mercy. they send drugs and guns into our community. we use the drugs and become even dumber, and teach our children everything we dont know. we use the guns and kill each other, mostly young males, most of which have children. so now those children have no father. girls and boys have no one to teach them about sex and its possible consequences. so we contract aids and other std's, and die. girls have babies by untaught boys, so the babies are doomed to the same fate, to be just like their parents. then the girls(and i call them girls regardless of age because of the childish mentality we cant seem to shake off) realize they and their kids cant make it without a man, so they turn to the goverment for help. welfare, foodstamps, and section 8, and they become dependant on this "government aid", and as a result become even lazier. and this is all the children know, so its all they expect for themselves. and the cycle continues. i refuse to allow this to be my son's fate, or my grand kids, or my great grandkids, etc. i will do my part in breaking the cycle, do yours.
