Concerned about the perception of the Black race?
Then do something about it.... Commit to being a high quality individual.

If someone makes a comment that you don't like, but it doesn't apply directly to you, ignore it.
Why get bent out of shape about it? That only makes you look guilty.

Genuinely concerned about the state of things in your community, city, state or the country?
Get organized, do your research so you know exactly what you're talking about and demand a public roundtable with your local and federal representatives. It's sad that people sit and talk about how the government isn't really for the people anymore, but nobody's doing anything to change it.

Speaking of which...If the government is of the people, by the people and for the people, why is it that the people don't control politician's salaries and bonuses? That's just not right. We have got to find a way to change that.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you?
Well, in relationships, considering the extreme differences in men's needs vs. women's needs, that becomes more tailored, especially with intimacy. It becomes more like strive to meet my needs and I'll strive to meet your needs. Don't do to him what you want him/her to do to you, learn what he/she likes and wants and give it to him/her. Don't try to guess, communicate...ask...if you like something - let it be known...if you don't like something - let it be known, nicely.

Worried about how your child is being educated?
Do something about it - at home!
- Don't wait until your child starts school to teach them the basics. If you instill an early interest in learning in your child, it will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
- If your child isn't doing well in school, look at what YOU aren't doing with them at home that may be contributing to their failure BEFORE you go and jump down their teacher's throat. Teachers can only do so much with 30 kids or more at once. It's nearly impossible for them to give each individual child, with their individual learning styles & individual learning abilities, individual attention. If you feel your child isn't getting something at school, talk to the principal about including it in the curriculum; if it's not possible, supplement at home. As a parent it's your job to make sure your child is getting what they need. If that means finding a tutoring program, having a conference with their teacher, or spending some time in bookstores or the library - it's still up to you.
- Be involved in the school. It's just like anything else, if your presence isn't felt, people tend to think you don't care. Teachers most common complaints are lack of parent involvement and irate parents who don't try to get the whole story before they go off on them. Nobody is perfect, including your child.

Communication Rules to Live By:
*Appearance is subjective and can be deceiving - be careful about using it as a measure.
*When dealing with people you don't know, understanding basic psychology is important - emotional sensitivity, interpretation/comprehension, intellect, and environment play major roles in how people view the world, objectivity is important in holding a discussion with anyone you don't know, some can do it, some can't
*Practice picking up on the details, they add an entirely different dimension to any story, face value doesn't take you very far.
*Treat everyone you meet as an individual, setting aside all preconceptions and stereotypes (some people fall into them like the mold was formed from them, you can't avoid the obvious, but give 'em the benefit of the doubt still)...this can be hard as hell for some people, but it's often worth the effort.
*If you don't know/understand - ask.

Life is a growth process until the moment you die...
even if your body is practically useless, your mind is still capable of growth.
