The Soul Sounds open mic is dedicated to providing artists with a venue to showcase their talents and promote their work. This open mic is a COMMUNITY event which means all* are welcomed to perform and be a part of the audience. Unlike other events we encourage artists to bring information about their upcoming shows at different locations around the Twin Cities and to share. We also encourage you to bring any materials such as books, CD's or artwork that you have available for sale.

POETS: Come down and share your completed work, works in progress or free-styles!!! Use the band or don't....it's all up to you. Spoken Word can change the world if we have something meaningful to say to one another.

VOCALIST: Share your voice!!! Practice your skills here or give us a preview of what's to come. All skill levels are encouraged to sing. Bring down your band and your voice and bless the room.

MUSICIANS: Bring your acoustic instruments down and jam with the people on the mic and stick around for the jam session that we hope will run long into the AM. **This is an unplugged/acoustic event due to City of Minneapolis ordinances for now. No electric Bass, Guitar, Keyboards or any other instruments that need electricity to run. There is a baby grand piano, drum set and upright bass in house. We're hoping to get a handheld acoustic bass in the near future. Horn, Djimbe, Conga, tambourine players and more welcome!!

ACTORS / ACTRESSES: Yes, you're welcome as well!!! Come down with your cast or solo and give us a 5 minute skit of any play you have running or just practice your craft. We'd love to hear about what you have going on in the Twin Cities and beyond.

COMEDY: We'd love for you to make us laugh. Comedians are welcome to the Soul Sounds open mic. Share some jokes and practice your skills. Let us know where to tickle our funny bones!! MORE: Magicians, public speakers, organization that have messages to share regarding health, lifestyle, government, grants, artistic workshops and more. Come down and share information that is vital to the continuation of the Arts in Minneapolis.

VISUAL ARTISTS Soul Sounds will proudly present the work of painters / sketch artists / and all types of visual art. These artists will be selected and booked by the host. Consider this your mini art opening!! Bring in material to show and to sell. **Only with prior booking**

WHY NO RAP?!! We love rappers. They are nothing but poets with beats. The face of rap (Hip-Hop if you will) has changed drastically in the last 10 years and the subjects have gone the way of ignorance and degradation. Due to the fact that a lot (not all mind you) of rappers content is not of the positive nature there will be NO RAP ALLOWED on the open mic list. HOWEVER.......Soul Sounds will feature certain Hip-Hop artists that will be booked by the host. Soul Sounds is committed to bringing positive messages to you and will allow rappers to perform only if they meet the criteria set by Soul Sounds.
