I'm a thick & pretty BBW, with dreds. It is what it is: and it's ALL good.

...a Pan-Africanist progeny, born and raised in (and undeniably shaped by) revolutionary times: during the Civil Rights movement, the Free Love movement, the Anti-War Movement, the Women's Liberation Movement.

...the offspring of both free and enslaved ministers, educators, philosophers, entrepreneurs, crooks, womanizers, and OG's

...a curious mixture of African/First-Nations/German-Jew/Dutch-Irish ancestry

...a loyal friend, lover, confidant, mother, and commrad in arms

...I love hard, laugh loud, dance freely, sing sweetly, listen well, think long and intently, speak softly, fight fair, cry silently, experience hurt deeply, and question everything, especially the status quo, authority, dubious individuals and Globalism

...a songstress, wordsmith, poetess, actress, and public speaker: hopefully touching upon pain and pleasure, identifying beauty and dysfunction, exposing truth and lies, hopefully moving myself and the hearers/seers toward a cathartic healing experience / toward being more alive and free to laugh, love, feel, explore, express and expose

...a lover of the Fine Arts and Culture. into Jazz, R&B, Hip-Hop, Classical . . . the whole trajectory

...I'm a lady in public . . .

I sing Jazz because I'm a free, improvisationally complex person, integrating many styles and multi-faceted moods and modes. I sing Classical because that where I got my real first vocal training as a soloist, and it has its own beauty -- if people don't get too stuffy and dogmatic about it being the only serious or important music. But, if I had to choose between Jazz and Classical (or Western Traditional Classical) -- Jazz would win out. Jazz is a classical form of music -- and recognized as such around the world, but not in America. The Western Classical tradition, for the most part, is so in love with itself that it cannot realize that there is another "original" Classical tradition, Jazz. Maybe in the next 50 or 60 years things will change in America. What do you think?

I am a rather non-traditional, non-religious person -- (or at least hopefully so) because that's Who and how Yeshua Hamaschiach was. He was Love on a Mission, and that's my life's goal. I hope you will feel it in my music -- not a preachy message -- but the warmth of Love, Grace and Freedom.

Yeshua HaMashiach: Jesus The Christ,
The Messaiah

Christianity is not "the White Man's religion" -- It's a Middle-Eastern Jewish/Ethopian/Egyptian = Jewish/African religion that spread to Europe. If they tried to hide our History and true Identity, it stands to reason that they would try to steal our God-given religious Faith. The ancient Egyptian artifacts that portray the Patriarch Jacob, his twelve sons and their families show these Mesopotamians to be "brown-skinned people with bushy hair." All that being said, I personally don't use the King James Version, but the Middle-Eastern "P e s h i t t a, aka Lamsa Bible". By the way, I am trying very hard to get either a hard copy or an Internet copy of the "Ethopian Bible" -- because it was not manipulated by the Catholic Church or Eurocentric colonial or neo-colonial translators.
"And you shall know the truth and that very truth shall make you free.
(John 8:32, Holy Bible from the Ancient Eastern Text [The P E S H I T T A])"
Amen.

THE MOTHER OF GOD (Yoldath Aloho)

painted by St. Luke the Evangelist
Malankara Christian Resources on the Web
The famous Icon of Virgin Mary with Infant Jesus in the Altar of the Morth Mariam Jacobite Syrian church, Manarcad (India). Please note that this ancient painting depicts both Mother Maryam and Yeshua as "brown-skinned" people. This is not an Afrocentric rendering, this is an ANCIENT SYRIAC RENDERING. The artwork tells the truth. There is no "blond haired / blue-eyed" Messiah shown.

Those who have
greatly influenced my life . . .

My parents -- the late ELDER Jacob C. & Dr. Ruth
My parents, "Jakey" & "Babe Ruth" were married 49 years,
Until my father slipped from this life and on into the next,
Taking his joy and charisma over onto the Other Side . . .
My parents were friends, business partners, confidants . . .
Against many odds, they made life work. . . and helped a lot of people in the process.

Compassionate Elder statesman, preacher, teacher, philosopher, thinker, dreamer, entrepreneur,
unselfish lover of Humanity, a wonderful father & grandfather. . . missed by all who knew him.

His favorite poem: The Guy in the Glass

The Guy in the Glass

by Dale Wimbrow, (c) 1934

When you get what you want in your struggle for pelf*,
And the world makes you King for a day,
Then go to the mirror and look at yourself,
And see what that guy has to say.

For it isn't your Father, or Mother, or Wife,
Who judgement upon you must pass.
The feller whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the guy staring back from the glass.

He's the feller to please, never mind all the rest,
For he's with you clear up to the end,
And you've passed your most dangerous, difficult test
If the guy in the glass is your friend.

You may be like Jack Horner and "chisel" a plum,
And think you're a wonderful guy,
But the man in the glass says you're only a bum
If you can't look him straight in the eye.

You can fool the whole world down the pathway of years,
And get pats on the back as you pass,
But your final reward will be heartaches and tears
If you've cheated the guy in the glass.
_______

(*) Pelf = Wealth or riches gotten unjustly,  deceitfully, without honor.

Books
that have shaped
my worldview

In junior high and high school, I was involved in music, drama, speech team, engineering club, student government and Junior Achievement. These things helped me to become diverse in terms of music, literature and business by requiring me to do lots of reading. On the weekends, I lived in Indianapolis' huge downtown library and read every anthology on Afro-American Literature. I spent hours on end reading poetry, essays, and short stories by the African-American writers from the Harlem Renaissance -- to the Civil Rights Era -- to the Black Power Movement, such as Paul Laurence Dunbar, Langston Hughes, Mari Evans, Margaret Walker, Nikki Giovanni, Amari Baraka, etc. I also read many of the major European writers such as Chauser, Shakespeare, Edgar Allen Poe, Robert Frost, etc. Combined with the rigors of college prep classes, along with speech & debate teams, -- I was forced to become an avid reader. The listing below includes many of the books that I have read over the years that have helped to shape my worldview and opinions.

I've been Moved by Movies . . .

A famous author, John Powell, once wrote, "If I tell you what I think, then you have a catalogue file of my thoughts; but if I tell you what I feel, then I am telling you about who I am."

As a student of his writings, I agree. I also believe that if I tell you WHAT I WATCH for ENTERTAINMENT and PERSONAL ENRICHMENT -- that I tell you volumes about who I am, what I like, what's important, what I feel strongly about, and what I believe.

This list of films represents much of what I value, hold dear, think is entertaining. My choices below tell you a little about what I think on Politics, Government, Social Issues, Afrocentrism, Eurocentrism, Elitism, Community, Family and "The HOOD" . . .

Hollar back if you think "you feel me."

THE EXODUS DECODED
(A must-see for serious students of history, especially in coming to terms with the PanAfrican/Egyptian link between the Israelites and the Egyptians!)

"The story of the Exodus invokes an epic tale--Pharaohs and Israelites, plagues and miracles, splitting of the sea and drowning of an army, and Moses. It's at the heart of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. After much research--working with archaeologists, Egyptologists, geologists, and theologians--filmmaker Simcha Jacobovici concluded that the Exodus took place hundreds of years earlier than thought. With a new timetable, Jacobovici reexamined artifacts and discovered that the traditional consensus on the date was reached without reference to Judaic texts that record the oral traditions. When Jacobovici consulted these texts, they revealed names of people and places unknown to researchers until recently when extensive excavations in the Nile Delta took place. Teaming up with special effects designers, he created a unique digital experience of the Exodus. Blending archaeological findings with eye-catching effects, Jacobovici creates a virtual museum to showcase his discoveries."
