Healing is work, not gambling. It is the work of inspiration, not manipulation. If we the healers are to do the work of helping bring our whole people together again, we need to know such work is the work of a community. It cannot be done by an individual. It should not depend on people who do not understand the healing vocation?.The work of healing is work for inspirers working long and steadily in a group that grows over generations, until there are inspirers, healers wherever our people are scattered, able to bring us together again.
--Ayi Kwei Armah?

"A base man is the common lover who loves the body rather than the soul; for he is not lasting since he loves a thing that is not lasting. For as soon as the flower of the body fades, which is what he loved, `He takes to the wing and away he flies,` and violates any number of vows and promises; but the lover of a good character remains faithful throughout life, since he has been fused with a lasting thing." ,Great Dialogues of Plato - Symposium

CYCLES

it has grown quiet here,
the sea has ceased its roiling and thrashing,
souls tossed about in chaos,
feel lighter than air,
as they breathe a breath of light

they have hated their pain
have recoiled from their suffering
yet, are fully aware now
that this was the path
to strength and rejuvenation

here lies the vision they perceived
murky and undetermined previously
now, clear, brilliant in color, direction found
as they move toward the sun
illuminated, where once there was dark

the cycle continues
joy, pain, an almost death and back to joy again
always, forgetting in their joy, that the journey is a cycle
which continues repetitively throughout eternity
they forget that joy is merely a resting place

they revel in the joy, succumb to its hypnosis
forgetting that the cycle continues on,
slopping steadily toward the decline once again,
failing to see the imminent cycle of progression
through the journey of yin and yang

lost in the moment, without an eye for the future
quickly forgetting the depth of their suffering
resolutely pursuing temporary happiness
eternally weaving a mat of woes
until the storm strikes again
than, they remember

I FORGOT

I do not write love poems anymore
Because in my hast to remain unhurt
I have forgotten how to give or receive
The love my soul cries for

I do not remember the warmth of a kiss
Gently placed upon my lips, my eyes, my heart
Or the passion in a lover?s eyes as he gazes into mine
Nor the sigh that escapes my lips in response

I have no memory of that lover?s touch
It?s faded away over time, slowly passed out of my mind
Too many years have passed since I?ve felt this tenderness
Or been granted the pleasure of giving it in return

The quiet talks late at night as we?ve held each other in thrall
The walks along the beach hand in hand in our own world
I can?t seem to remember any of these conversations
Though I?ve tried to remember every word

I can no longer feel his strong arms around me as he held me
Gently soothing away all my pains and fears, drying my tears
Or the comfort which he provided to sally my insecurity
The eternity in his arms I carried into the world

Romantic dances in moonlit rain have all ceased to be
Or making love in spontaneous lust wherever, whenever
I can?t remember a single time the thousands of times there was us
Standing alone in a crowd, passion bigger than the universe

I can?t believe that I forgot, so much that we once were
How sad to realize all that once was, without a memory
Time takes its toll on everything no matter how profound
Up in smoke, gone with the wind, forgotten pleasures lost.

I ALWAYS WANTED A MAN
(www.soundclick.com/traceylinmiller)

All my life I?ve wanted a man

Who could carry his burden?

As only a black man can.

Fearless, upright and bold,

Eyes to the sky, walking that walk,

A hero in my eyes.

A man so proud beautiful and strong,

Lifting me up in the spirit of his song.

And when he walks,

Oh his head is held so high,

His chest stuck out in every semblance of pride

And the sound of his voice

When he says my name

The rain of his love down upon me

All my life I?ve wanted a man

Beside whom I could stand,

A man of great honor and integrity.

A man so trustful and trustworthy,

Respectful and respect worthy.

A man sagacious as the eldest of the gods.

A man of great honor is he,

The man to whom I want to belong,

My body prone in supplication,

My voice raised in a song of praise,

My heart won by

The intellectual impact he has made.

Man of magic and wisdom

And rhythm and song,

Man of wonder and joy

And principles strong.

All my life I?ve wanted a man

Who was truly a gentle man,

A warrior supreme in his own right.

Yet never encumbered by the darkness,

Walking in the light,

Beautiful man

I always wanted a man

SOULMATE

Senses become aware
Eyes meet across a room
Bodies involuntarily moving
Attracted
As though opposite ends of magnetic poles
Can not resist

The smile of welcome lets you know
They are equally captivated
The dance of new love begins
As you move
In to closer proximity
Longing for the expected nearness

A word, a glance
Eyes sending messages
Beyond minds comprehension
You thin, withdraw
But only slightly cautious
But the draw
Is overpowering
You KNOW

Yet don?t know what it is you know
There is much more involved here than the mind
All the senses are tensed
In the awareness of each other
Hoping, reaching, reciprocating
In undulating energy
Passion is born

A passion not yet spoken of
Only minutely acted upon
In this first meeting
But you know
And you want more
And more is forthcoming

It is offered
As though an offering
On the altar of love
Freely, unencumbered
With a whispered prayer
For desires to be fulfilled
An appreciation
For old prayers answered

I?M READY

Special is so inadequate a word
When it comes to describing
What my feelings are for you

You are more than special
More than loved
More than anything I have felt
In my life before

And when I am with you
I become electrified in your energy
My body trembles as you fill me
With the essence of you
I gasp in recognition of the vastness of your power
It?s effect upon me
How you fill and charge me

Your yin to my yang
I am caught in the vortex of us
Yet you seem oblivious

I am wondering do you feel as I do
Or am I lost in sensations
Stimulating my imagination
Overtaking my mind
Until I believe that what I feel is real

But is it a coincidence
That every time I?m near you
My whole being is shaken
And drawn to you in such a way
That all of my resistance shatters

You own me
I am helpless
There is nothing I can do
To save myself from you

But you are gentle and you are kind
You don?t take advantage
Although you do recognize my helplessness

What is it you say?
My ?soul won?t let me run away?
How did you know?
How could you possibly guess?

But than I did say that we are joined
In such a way that
You could not help but know

I laugh- smile ? yes it?s true
We are who we think we are
Know we are
Caught in the web of our destiny
Longing to fulfill it
Yet afraid of the power
That if united, we will generate

Are we ready?
Can we do this
Without burning in our own flame
Yes I think so
Yes I know so
I, I am ready.

MEMORIES

Memories, perplexing
Luring my mind to a past love
Kisses of long ago still felt on my lips
A hunger for what is past
A long ago love that did not last
Invisible arms still holding me
Hands caressing me
Making me feel loved

Eyes peering into mine
Lips coming closer
Touching, tasting, teasing
As the eyes sparkle
Memories of a long ago love
Filling me with the same sensations
As they did when it was brand new

A memory dedicated to what once was
A love expressed in every moment
Nights filled with passion
Days filled with laughter
Tiny invisible expressions of love
To be found around all the time
Making us know we are loved

Gifts of joy so profound
Wishes granted
From one to the other
That even now I wonder
How could it have end
The long intimate talks
The quiet hand held walks
The special surprises
Just because?

An ongoing rediscovery of each other
Laughter in each others eyes
Moonlight walks in the park
Picnic lunches at the beach
Love made on snow covered ground
Intense and warming

Spontaneity of a kind never realized before
Or since
Memories of journeys taken
To uncharted regions
Of the heart, mind and spirit
Opened to give and receive
All the love ever created

A union of the soul
My mate is mate no more
Merely a memory of sense overwhelmed
Yet never having enough of what is offered
And reciprocated so freely
Desirous of more

Mutual satisfaction
To a degree beyond mental capacity
Filling and expanding
The heart and spirit of each
Enlightening the beings
Each who participate so freely
With every ounce of themselves

Now only a memory of what once was

REBIRTH

Seeker of reality
Living in a strange fantasy
Of other?s making
Power within trying to get out
Blasphemer
Speaking words
Creating doubts as illusions
Breaking out of delusions
Forward
Upward
Onward
Bursting thru
Ill made attempts at conformity
Rebirth on a new plane of creation
Aligning self to cosmic energy
Feeling free of expectations
Illuminated for all to see
Follow me
Joyously taking my time
Savoring the unknown like an old friend
Adventures in paradise
Rainbow smiles upon my face
Satiated in remembrance
Of what I had forgotten
Loving and rejoicing in all of life
Opening me to a new dawning
Of who I really am
Sparkling darkness
Effervescent air
Breathed thru life
Porous with anticipation of forthcoming dreams
Realized in awakened times
Shadows bouncing off the walls of my mind
Luminary reflections of truth
Birthed in radiance
Gossamer drapes revealing my nakedness

LOVES GARDEN

HEAR THE RECORDING OF THIS POEM
WWW.SOUNDCLICK.COM/traceylinmiller

Scintillating moons dripping
Silver droplets of twilight upon your skin
Breath comes in quickening time
Embellished by sighs and moans
From windblown trees
Succulent fruit
Ripe for the picking
Juices flowing thru my fingers
Mangoes and kiwi
Dripping
Flesh still warm from the sun
I taste and savor the aroma
Rising to stimulate my senses
Making me hungry for the last drop of nectar
I peer into your eyes
Dark chocolate
Mingling with mine
Melting in the warmth of me
An unchallenged surrender to each other
Our only thought
Is of giving and merging into
A slow, deep, dark
Luxurious pool
Of fluctuating waves
Of passion
Rising and falling in harmony
Breathe coming in syncopated beats
As we move to the rhythm of time
Standing still
Flesh moist and sticky
With the juices of fruit fresh picked
Tongues darting, striking
Drawing forth snakes of pleasure
Undulating across our skin
A gentle rain begins to fall
Bathing us in a wet warmth
Enhancing the sensations
Our fingers traveling
In all our secret places
Bringing us to a crescendo of sound
Joining all of nature in an expression
Of life
Of living
Of love

THEY CALL IT REVOLOUTION

All of us pseudo intellectuals pretending to have the answer
To a problem as potent and destructive as cancer

The problem isnA?A?t one of who is to blame
ItA?A?s one of ignorance in which we defame
Those going thru the same things as we
The real problem is one we canA?A?t see

We talk about this and we talk about that
We speak on truths and relevant facts
We parade our knowledge all up and down the hall
About what we know, what we think and all

We lambaste everyone and everything for what we perceive
We keep bringing the same rhetoric, nothing new up our sleeve
We read and rehash the thoughts from long ago
Booker T., Dubois, Garvey, Malcolm you know

We talk about which ideas are best and what we should do
Blame this thing and that for the things as a people we go thru

Seems to me one should get bored repeating the same old stuff
Like leftovers from last week we should have had enough
We need to use othersA?A? knowledge for that which it is intended
Build on their ideas with a few of ours blended

But instead all I ever seem to hear
Are the thoughts unchanged from yesteryear
ItA?A?s the same old thing like leftover gravy
It ainA?A?t the black power thing, but the human power baby

What makes you think that itA?A?s all about us, we people whoA?A?ve been disenfranchised
You looking at it so hard that you canA?A?t see what lies before your eyes
You want to say down with the whites, the Latinos and the Jew
Or any other faction that you give power over you

Yes I said YOU give power over YOU think about it
Because without your daily consent theyA?A?d have to do without it
Stop focusing on your blackness and focus on your goals
Accomplish what you intend to do by bringing the power from your soul

The thing of it is I know you donA?A?t hear me, because it just became simplified
You can lead a horse to water but canA?A?t make him drink no matter how hard you tried
Pay close attention and you might find out what itA?A?s really all about
Stop looking the horse in the %#&@$! and look him in the mouth

You looking for an outward revolution for everyone else to change
When itA?A?s the internal process that determines the outcome of the game
We canA?A?t control anyone else and thatA?A?s always the way itA?A?s going to be
The problem isnA?A?t the world out there; you need to think the problem is inside me

Put your mind to all the words I just said out loud
March to your own drum instead of in a crowd
If each takes care of his own self, governs his own thoughts and space
We just may in due time, save the human race
