Healing is work, not gambling. It is the work of inspiration, not manipulation. If we the healers are to do the work of helping bring our whole people together again, we need to know such work is the work of a community. It cannot be done by an individual. It should not depend on people who do not understand the healing vocation?.The work of healing is work for inspirers working long and steadily in a group that grows over generations, until there are inspirers, healers wherever our people are scattered, able to bring us together again.
--Ayi Kwei Armah?

"A base man is the common lover who loves the body rather than the soul; for he is not lasting since he loves a thing that is not lasting. For as soon as the flower of the body fades, which is what he loved, `He takes to the wing and away he flies,` and violates any number of vows and promises; but the lover of a good character remains faithful throughout life, since he has been fused with a lasting thing." ,Great Dialogues of Plato - Symposium

Blessings (Dedicated to the Courageous Peoples of Haiti)

It's truly hard to recognize
the blessings that come in disguise
We think that they should all make us smile
And bring laughter to our eyes

We think that our blessings should all be
Of pure and positive entity
We think that only things that are good
Should be pronounced holy

But when suffering does fill our heart
Tear our mind and soul apart
Knocks us down to our knees
This is when true blessings start

For in this strange demonic format
We find out truly where we're at
It's in this place of chaos and strife
That we recognize our power in combat

We fall and rise, over and over again
Hopelessly thinking that we can't win
But from somewhere deep inside
We find the strength to rise once again

Though lost in outrages beyond belief
Problems surmounting the loftiest reach
Basic needs incapable of being met
Through our struggle, the world we teach

The lesson is not one that's impossible to learn
We've been teaching it at every turn
That Blessings come from all things good and bad
A spiritual giant, in our hearts doth burn

We've been beaten down and trodden upon
Century after century has come and gone
You'd think justice would have prevailed
But there is still much to be done

I once read somewhere in time and space
That there was a reason for this black race
We had come here to teach the world
The truth of goodness and grace

Though we're looked upon with pitying eyes
As we shoulder our burden in deep disguise
This is how we've chosen to teach those of this Earth
Their actions  toward us a measurement of their rise

Our great blessing is that we're built this strong
Mentally, physically and spiritually we prolong
There is no degradation that is so great
That we can't find the spirit to carry on

It's truly hard to recognize
the blessings that come in disguise
We think that they should all make us smile
And bring laughter to our eyes

We think that our blessings should all be
Of pure and positive entity
We think that only things that are good
Should be pronounced holy

But it is announced in how we stand
Every woman, child and man
That we show the truth of blessings to all
That we stand eternally and never fall
