The Great Decline Of Black Marriage!

In 1940, 95% of African Americans with children were married. In 1960 that figure dropped to 70% and in 2006 it was further reduced to 35%. This means that only 35% of black children live in two parent households compared to 70% of white children.

Sociologist Andrew J. Cherlin revealed that a black child was more likely to grow up living with both parents during slavery days than he or she is today. Also, a black woman was more likely to be married as a slave than she is today.
