4 days of historic events will take place in Washington DC starting with an Ethiopian Millennium 77th Anniversary Coronation of His Imperial Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie I & Empress Menen Nyahbinghi Ises from November 1-2 at Top Shelf T-Shirt Co. Warehouse located at 5782 2nd Street NW Washington, DC 20011.
Following will be the opening of the Smithsonian Institutions "Discovering Rastafari" Exhibit at the Musuem of Natural History at 10th & Constitution Avenue NW Washington, DC. The opening ceremony for the exhibit will be held on Friday November 2, 2007 from 6:30-8:30pm with Nyahbinghi Ises, and opening remarks from the House of Nyahbinghi, Jamaica, the Ethiopia Africa Black International Congress, the Twelve Tribes of Israel, the Rastafari Community of Washington, D.C. followed by remarks from Jakes Homiak, Director of Anthropological Research, Smithsonian Institution, Paul Risser, Director of the National Museum of Natural History and Olivia Grange, Jamaican Minister of Information and Culture.
The evening will commence from 8:00 to 10:00pm with a live performance by Ras Michael and the Sons of Negus at the National Museum of Natural History's Baird Auditorium. On Saturday the event will continue with a 77th Anniversary Coronation Education Forum at Howard University's Blackburn Center Auditorium at 2400 Sixth Street NW Washington DC 20059. Rastafari Basic Academy will host the Ethiopian Millennium 77th Anniversary Rastafari Youth Program 2pm-5pm and will continue with the Ethiopian Millenium 77th Anniversary Coronation Educational Forum from 6pm-9pm.
The educational events at Howard University will include rare film footage of the coronation of H.I.M. Emperor Haile Selassie I & Empress Menen on November 2, 1930 provided by Jakes Homiak of the Smithsonian Institution and historic accounts from Rastafari Elders from the diaspora.
