Is Black America still divided by skin tones?

Posted

I was getting my daily dose of Mediatakeout, and the below caption stood out: WTF???? VIRGINIA UNION UNIVERSITY IS HOLDING ITS FIRST ANNUAL DARK SKIN VS REDBONE PARTY!!!! I had to click on the hyperlink and feasted my eyes on this flyer: I would love to be a fly on the wall for this one! lol Why are some black people still stuck on skin tones? 1. Who would promote such a thing? 2. Who would show up? I searched the internet to see if there were other parties similar to this and I found this: WOW!

Are we ever going to get over skin tone? How are we going to work towards eliminating racism if we have racism within our own race?

Is the movie "Good Hair" an attempt to ridicule black women?"

Chris Rock

I was on a blog site and the above subject resulted in 215 responses! This is what the creater had to say:

It seems the more black women educate themselves, climb the corporate latter, are dating and marrying outside their race, the more some insecure black men try to ridicule and keep us down. If doesn't matter if a particular black man is successful, famous or not it is something in some black men certainly not all black men, that hate to see black women grow, become independent and more accepted as part of the mainstream like other nonblack women are eventhough the mainstream is what many black men are striving for themselves. These types of black men are alway making fun of or finding faults with black women in order to keep our self-esteem low and to belittle us in the eyes of other races of people.

My response to this: I don't think "Good Hair" is an attempt to ridicule black women. I watched an extended trailer and he is trying to educate & uplift black women through humor.

His(Chris Rock) daughter came to him and asked him: "Daddy, why don't I have good hair?". We (black people) are the ones that coined the phrase "good hair"; not Chris Rock alone or any other nationality. I have natural hair but I used to wear weave and have relaxed hair. From the snippets I've seen; he is showing how the hair industry is making big bucks off of black women and how harmful relaxers are to us.  Now, to each it's own and what is on the inside is what counts. Long story short...."Good Hair" is just showing what millions of women do to obtain what they call beauty.

What do you think?

There are some good police officers that actually "protect and serve". I do know that there were a lot of good police officers killed or seriously injured in the line duty. This video is NOT directed towards them. I dedicate this video to all the crooked, racist, profiling, ignorant police officers who use a badge and blue uniform to demonstrate power & cause fear. Woooo....now...with that out of the way....you are in for a good laugh derived from a serious situation.

IF THESE WOMEN WERE NOT "UNDESIRABLES"; WOULD THE POLICE BE DOING MORE INVESTIGATION? This has been going on since 2007!! Whoever the culprit is; he is confident that he won't get caught because of who his victims are. Sad...

"Black In American 2" - Thanx CNN

Posted

Good Evening Folks....this will be a blog in progress.  Well.....were you as intrigued as I?   I am not going to run down all of my yays and nays yet. I want to give all my blog family a chance to watch~absorb~respond. While I wait for your responses; I have a question. Why didn't BET (BlackEntertainmentTelevsion) do something like this? I mean....dang! Why did they let CNN beat them to the punch.  Who would be equipped to take on this interview if it was aired on BET. (please exclude Roxie & Terrance J) lol

00 = shocked eyes

Ok.....I understand the legal questions he avoided but what about when the reporter asked him about the family?  "I'm great and the family is pretty good." Ummmm...Janet Jackson was struggling on stage trying to speak......that does not equate to "pretty good"! The icing on the cake is when he and his partner were trying to promote his new venture! His partner even looked uncomfortable.

Question: Do you think he is in denial, insensitive, or.....something else? Share.

This is the worst since the Wayans brothers hosted. As far as the MJ tribute; I do understand that they were working with limited time. They still could have produced a better tribute. They were rushing to be the first ones to do a MJ tribute and wanted to cash in on the ratings!

The Lows:
1. Ciara is a dancer and singer. Why in the devil was she sitting on a stool singing Heal The
World?

2. Chris Brown would have done a great job doing Billie Jean or Bad; why wasn't he there?

3. New Edition, I love them but the butchered ABC!

4. Lil Wayne's lyrics were awful and I do not understand why his daughter and friends were up
there. This song was inappropriate.

5. Don Cornelious went well over his time.

6. Did anyone try to contact Usher, Justin Timberlake or Chris Brown.
????????????
7. Keri Hilson did a poor job.

8. T-Pain~"Big Azz Chain"

9. Jamie discussing Michael's skin, nose, etc. It's funny when he is alive but not dead. Also, his father was in the auidience.

10. Why did they do tributes throughout the show oppose to one tribute at the beginning, middle,or end?  ?????
11. Jamie sitting down Beyonce quickly as if the climax of the show was about to begin only to find out it was JayZ performing DOA.

12. Beyonce was gorgeous and did a wonderful job on that rendition, but didn't you want more?

Highlights:(I am not even a big fan of Neyo but...)
1. Neyo's rendition of "The Lady of My Life"
2. Neyo's & Jamie Foxx's rendition of "I'll Be There"
3. Neyo with BBD
4. Neyo, Jamie, and Fab performing "She's Got Her Own"
5. Mary Mary & Queen Latifah
6. O'Jays Performance
7. The whole tribute to the O'Jays was great
8. Maxwell~awesome

Stick to the subject! >8^(

A pregnant Jill Scott

OK......I want to say that I am a die hard fan of Jill Scott! It's unfortunate that she and her son's father are no longer an item. One failed marriage, failed engagement, and being a single mother is a tough hurtle to get over. I have never been married but I experienced the last two.

OK....In the posted article; there was one thing that stood out: Scott,  who has a reputation in the industry for being somewhat difficult to get along with, was formerly married to Lyzel Williams, a graphic designer.

OK...What does the above have to do with the subject at hand? I have never heard any reports of her being difficult to get along with. Not saying she's not because I have no idea. If she is difficult to get along with "in the music industry"; what does that have to do with her personal life? The music industry is her JOB and her love life is her PERSONAL life. Do you think I give a sugar honey ice tea what people that I work with think of me? I am there for 8 hours~that's it. Why do people judge you based on the one part they see of you? Whoever "complained" that she was difficult to get along with probably never took her to the side and discussed whatever she said or did anyway.

Being that Jill Scott is a CONFIDENT~BEAUTIFUL~TALENTED~DIVA; it would be trivial to even entertain an irrelevant statement. The below is for the common folk:

Question: How would you feel if someone made an opinionated statement about you that has NOTHING to do with the subject at hand? How would you respond?

Just Wondering.........

I understand the concept & it is funny. Just wondering.....Why did they choose the BLONDE~NEATLY SWEPT HAIRED little girl to get the pony over the BRUNETTE (DARK)~NOT SO NEAT HAIRED little girl? Just wondering...

Disclaimer: *I believe that marriage should be between a male and female BUT I would not waste my time marching b/c there are more important issues to march about*

Thousands gathered to protest against Gay Marriage and only hundreds protest against the Sean Bell verdict!  What? Two people of the same sex want to get married....and? They are not killing or hurting anyone. Any old way; they are allowed to carry each other on their insurance & adopt children; might as well let them marry!(plz c disclaimer) lol Sean Bell was unarmed, killed, and his murderers were set free....I bet the Gay Marriage opposers did not show up for that one.Just wondering......

A man MOLEST a 1 year old~gets probation. A man HITS a police officer gets nine months in jail. WTF? Does that make any sense? Just wondering......

Berhard Emmelmann, 21, was given a NINE-MONTH jail sentence with immediate parole for an attack which left Constable Andrew McKenzie unconscious following a scuffle on Mooloolaba Esplanade in the early hours of January 20 last year.

In 2006 the Cherokee County District Attorney's office offered a plea bargain deal of PROBATION to a Rusk, TX resident after his arrest for molesting a 1-year-old baby girl.
