Joy in the House: Family Affair

Posted

More drama on the new episodes of House of Payne! Last week, CJ was interviewing for a new job - out of town. This week, Floyd lost the shop and the Hernandez Family made a little noise with their own family dilemma. And what about the new cute barber, Zack, played by comedian Gary Owen? Guess the barbershop will have some more flavor. -- And that flavor is VANILLA! Could it be that this show just keeps getting better? I'd love to tell you all about, if you didn't see it for yourself

In "Joy and Payne", Carlos and his son Diego just can't see eye to eye. Diego is being honored as a war hero and does not want to accept his medal, even though the whole Hernandez family is planning to attend the ceremony. They bicker in front of Curtis and Calvin until Curtis throws them out (Calvin included!) Back at their house, the rumbling continues as Carlos tells his son that he's just not measuring up. At the barbershop, Floyd wanders in tattered and hung over from a night of poker. The gang warns him that he's headed down the wrong path. Later, he comes in from another night of poker, but this time he says that he's lost the shop in a poker game. The new owner, Mr. Orlando, (isn't that the guy from Daddy's Little Girls? LOL!) comes in ready to make some changes, including uniforms!

Diego is escorted in the house by his sisters Mercedes and Alex, apparently he's been drinking (maybe with Floyd? Hmm ). Of course this sets Carlos off and Diego says he's about to re-enlist and go back to Iraq. At the shop, the barbers are wearing tight shorts and tank tops as their new uniforms and are clearly miserable. Curtis comes in to do a spot inspection and finds several code violations. He gives Mr. Orlando a list of fines amounting to $50,000. Mr. Orlando gives the bill and deed back to Floyd and leaves. Turns out that Calvin called his Pops to do a bogus site inspection that saved the day. Diego goes to see Calvin, and his sisters follow and so does their sassy abuelita (grandma). Carlos shows up and Curtis sends them back home. Carlos tells his son that he does not want him to go back to the war. They hug - it's a very tearful moment. Father and son style, --you know the drill.

In "A Sister's Payne", Kiki's little brother Darnell visits the shop and says he's cleaned up his act and gotten a job. At the Payne house Malik and Alex study together and agree to date - at home! Now, why didn't I think of that when I was in school? Kiki gets a phone call from her Mom that Darnell was shot and is in the hospital. Later, a neighborhood guy comes into the shop. Kiki starts to cut his hair until she realizes he may know something about her brother's shooting. Kiki gets a little upset - ok, VERY UPSET - and puts a razor to the guy's neck. The crew gets her off of him and he leaves. Later, Malik is trying to have a movie night with Alex. Curtis busts it up when he takes the burgers and fries Malik bought for his date and sends Alex home. Back at the shop, the neighborhood guy returns and slips Kiki a piece of paper with information about her brother's shooting. Kiki calls a friend whose uncle is a police officer.

What a rough week with the Paynes, the Hernandez family and the barbers! Maybe next week there will be laughs to make up for all the drama! Look out for visiting in-laws and a double date, but not all the daters are single!

Joy in the House: Oh, Baby!

Posted

Well, it's been an eventful week! The Inauguration took the whole world by storm on Tuesday and then, --there was Mr. Brown on Wednesday. That man makes me laugh more than a little bit! I hope you were right there laughing with me and crying just a little, too. Don't forget you can watch online if you missed if on Wednesday night. In "Meet Your Maker", Edna finds out that one of her best friends, an entertainer, has died some time ago and she's just hearing the news. She goes into a depression, but her new friends at Brown Meadows work on cheering her up. Jesus the handyman studies in the closet. Brown overhears this and thinks that Jesus is "in the closet" and hitting on him. Edna tells Cora and Miss Daisy about the good ol' days she had with her old friend. She shows them some of her dance moves and feels better for a while. Brown finally figures out that Jesus was only sitting in the closet to read because it's the quietest place in the house. The Brown Meadows residents puts on a "This Is Your Life" show for Miss Edna, each telling a part of her life and playing different parts. Brown plays Edna's brother and even the kids help put a smile on her face. Then it was time to "Meet The Babies". Brianna's friend Tamika comes to the house because Brianna told her she could stay there. Only problem is she's 9 months pregnant and Brown does not want her to stay. He finally gives in and says she can stay the night. Cora, Will and Sasha ask her about her parents and get conflicting stories. They decide to look for her family. Everyone leaves the house except The Colonel and Brown. And that's when Tamika's water breaks! Colonel and Brown go into panic mode, but it doesn't matter, the baby comes anyway. I just wonder what the baby was thinking as his first sight was a big grown man in those wild, one-piece, footed pajamas! Then Mr. Brown had the nerve to say that the baby was ugly. That's just not right, but it may have been true. After all some babies just aren't born cute! Meet The Browns is back next week as an old boyfriend comes to see Sasha and Brown enters a contest. More laughs, more love and more outlandish seventies clothing! Watch Tyler Perry's Meet The Browns this Wednesday on TBS at 10/9! See what happens when Brown comes to town. Only on TBS!" Joy in the House: Stressed to Impress

Posted

What is it about men going out of their way to impress women? Is there a reason they just can't be themselves? Last week we found both Malik and Calvin's pal Peanut trying to be something they're not, all for the attention of a woman. But, did it work? Let Miss Joy take you back to the episodes that aired on Wednesday, July 2nd . In, "True Lies", Kevin convinces Malik that in order to impress their friends at school, they need "experience" with the girls. Malik is reluctant, but Kevin has already invited some girls to the house while they are supposed to be in school. When they arrive, the boys think they may have a shot at finding out what the birds & the bees is all about. They soon find out that the fellas at school have been lying all along. The girls don't have experience either. Besides, Ella catches them all in the house and sends the girls home. In the meantime, Peanut has a new honey in his life. The problem? Peanut can't bring her home to his Momma, not because she's a bad girl, but because Peanut's Momma is an embarrassment. Peanut asks the family if they can just pretend to be his family instead. It almost works, until Curtis comes home. Peanut calls him Dad one too many times and Curtis blows the operation (and his top!). The girl runs out and leaves Peanut behind, after all she drove. Later, Peanut comes back with the same girl, except she has let her fa ade down and she is just as 'hood as he is! Later, CJ has a man to man talk with Malik. CJ tells him he would like him to wait until he gets married to have sex. In "That Sounds Sweet", Malik wants to enter the school talent show to impress a girl. He decides to play the saxophone, but he can't play a single note. Ella makes some delicious treats for the Church bake sale. Her baked goods are a hit and Claretha helps her turn her pastries into profit. Ella and the family run a bakery out of the house. Curtis finds out how bad Malik is on the saxophone, so he shows Malik how to "be cool" for the talent show. Malik imitates Curtis and learns how to at least look the part. At the end of a busy day of baking, Claretha tells Ella they made $8,000! An inspector comes to the house because he heard they were operating a business illegally. Turns out he has to issue them a fine in the amount of $8,000! Malik comes home after the talent show. Of course he didn't win, but he got the attention of the girl. Mission accomplished! This week, we focus on Calvin and his relationship with girlfriend Miranda, as well as his father Curtis. Will Calvin be able to impress Miranda's parents, or will Curtis' constant put downs put him to shame? Tune in this Wednesday to find out how it ALL goes down! Joy in the House: War Zone

Posted

Well, the House of Payne was in full swing last week, moving from drama and then to comedy all in one night. There was the war hero and the war at home, waged by Curtis of course. In case you got delayed at Bible study or fell asleep on the couch, here's Miss Joy's take on the episodes that aired on Wednesday, June 25th. It was the story of our "Unsung Heroes" when Calvin's buddy Animal returns home from Iraq. Pookie and Peanut throw a homecoming bash to welcome back their wildest homie, but when Animal sees the festivities he leaves the party. Animal tells the guys he wants to be called by his real name, "Derrick". Of course, no one knew that was his real name, after all Pookie's real name IS Pookie! Meanwhile, Malik has to write a paper about someone he looks up to, but can't decide who he should pick. CJ and Curtis both try to convince Malik to write about one of them. Later, Calvin asks Animal why he isn't interested in partying and having fun. Animal tells him that he just wants some peace and quiet while he's home out of respect for all that he's been through. Malik finally reads his finished paper to his family. It's about Janine. Ella and Jazmine are touched. In "Pissed, Poor and Paranoid", Curtis has had enough of Jazmine and Malik's spoiled ways. He takes the kids with him to hand out food to the misfortunate at the fire station. Curtis believes he's gotten through to them, until they run off to watch their favorite TV show. He tells Ella he's determined to teach them a lesson. The next morning all of the living room furniture and TV are gone. Curtis is the culprit and the family can't believe what he's done. After the kids have truly learned what it's like to be without, Curtis says he'll bring back the furniture and TV. Calvin tells his Pops he made a killing at the yard sale selling their old furniture and got $20 bucks for the TV. Curtis reaches into the closet, retrieves a baseball bat chases him around the house. Speaking of baseball, this week, Malik thinks he's ready to hit a homerun, but will the girls he invites over to the house let him get to first base? Also, Miss Ella puts her culinary skills to use by running a bakery out of the house. What will she do with all that dough?? It's hump day with the House of Payne! Don't miss the brand new, better than ever episodes. Watch Tyler Perry's House of Payne Wednesdays at 9/8 c. Only on TBS!" It's been a "joy"! Miss Joy

Who loves to watch crazy videos of folks acting up? I do, but now TBS is giving you a really good reason to act a fool! Go to tbs.com/houseofpayne and check out the Tyler Perry's House of Payne Contest!! Last day to enter is Wednesday, June 25th, so hurry! Last week, we had a birthday bash and a HOT FLASH BASH. If you missed the party with the Paynes, Miss Joy will give you the goods on the episodes that aired on Wednesday, June 18th. It's "Old School vs. New School" when Malik wants a cell phone for his birthday, but CJ tells him no. And the family throws him a party, but its lame with a capital "L", until cousin Calvin steps in. With a little help from his homies, Peanut & Pookie, Calvin gets the party started and Malik even gets closer to his dream girl Taylor. At the barbershop, Floyd says he'll have to fire someone due to budget cuts. He picks Calvin, you know - last one hired, first one fired! Well, Calvin must've learned something in his 7 years in college. He and Miranda decide to invest in the barbershop, making him part owner. Later, CJ gives Malik a cell phone as his birthday present. Miss Ella experiences some "Fire and Desire", when she rages during breakfast and turns the air conditioner on full blast. The family doesn't know what to make of her mood swings until it's revealed that she is going through the big "M", menopause. Girlfriends Claretha, Jo and Carla come over a throw a Hot Flash Bash to honor her change of life. Ella even makes some menopause mojitos! Meanwhile, Malik keeps getting detention. He confesses it's because he still has a crush on Asst. Principal and psychopath, Miss Jamieson (remember her, CJ's ex??), and this way he gets to spend time with her. He changes his mind when he later finds out that Miss Jamieson picked someone else to be Hall Monitor. This week, Calvin's buddy returns from Iraq and who throws the welcome home party? Pookie & Peanut, of course! Then, Curtis has had enough of those spoiled kids, so he aims to teach Jazmine and Malik and lesson in just how fortunate they really are. Wednesday is right around the corner, so get ready to laugh!! Don't miss the brand new, better than ever episodes. Watch Tyler Perry's House of Payne Wednesdays at 9/8 c. Only on TBS!"
