p>SEEING SOMEONE

In my book "seeing" someone suggests frequent sightings of an individual. He/she must have some sort of significance in your life for you to be “seeing” them so much that you label the affair as "seeing" them. This designation may or may not suggest an intimate relationship, but they’re probably kissing and actually like each other.

GOING OUT

Just like the title suggests, this is for people that “go out” on a pretty regular basis. Although they may not carry the title of an official couple just yet, they sure as hell act like one. “Going out” also sounds like you're knocking boots regularly and would probably be upset if you saw the other person "out" on a date with someone else.

TALKING

This one is a little tricky. More than likely this relationship has the potential to be serious but it’s still in the early stages. “Talking” denotes that you're still getting to know each other and may or may not have even kissed yet. Although the title suggests a lack of physical intimacy and is simply about "talking," I still feel this title still holds some weight and suggests someone that you really like.

CHILLIN’/KICKIN' IT

This one is ambiguous as you can get. I translate “chillin’” or “kickin’ it” to mean there's no real commitment here or at least not one the person using this label is willing to admit. This probably means that the pair doesn't go out on a regular basis and just "kick it" from time to time. Sex might be part of the equation but do to their lack of regular courtship it may not be part of the deal unless it’s a jump-off situation.

HANGIN' OUT

This is one step up from "kickin' it" meaning that there are plenty of the same characteristics just there's a little bit more frequency in how often the pair "hangs out." Once again, sex isn't a definite part of the equation here but there is a higher probability for it when you’re “hanging out.”

 DATING

When you’re “dating” someone there has to be some sort of feelings involved. Typically this applies to a couple that carries the title of boyfriend/girlfriend, but it can also apply to a serious relationship devoid of such titles. Either way “seeing,” “going out,” “talking,” “chillin’,” “kickin’ it” or “hangin’ out” with someone else while you're "dating" is definitely frowned up. Depending on the couple’s individual ground rules, though, it may be allowed but no sex with anyone other than the person you're “dating.” This is the ideal plateau most mutually interested individuals strive for because it possesses the most commitment.
