Fathers Day was a few weeks ago and on that day I had to work, being the low man in my new position I couldn't refuse to come in. I received a call from my oldest son and I called my dad that day.... I'm blogging this because something strange happened while I delivered blood products to the hospitals that day. I was just getting to Mt. Clemens General Hospital, before I got out of my van I witnessed an Asian man pleading with a police officer to take him home and I heard the officer tell him No because you stay to far! I couldn't help but notice that someone had beaten the hell out of the Asian man and he was dressed in hospital garb with absolutely nothing on under it! This man had no shoes or socks on and he was speaking perfect English with tears in his eyes begging for a ride home while trying his best to keep himself covered. The police officer got into his squad car and left. I couldn't believe my eyes or ears!!!! If that had been me I would have been arrested immediately. A cab driver pulled into the emergency entrance and the Asian man went right to work on him too and told the cab driver that he had money to pay but had to get home first and the cab driver refused to give into him. By that time I was heading into the emergency door to make my delivery and the cab driver walked in behind me headed to the visitor waiting room with the Asian man following him still trying to make his case and the driver just ignored him and started calling the name of the person who summoned the cab. At that time the Asian man told the cab driver that the name he was calling was his name and the cab driver turned around an started to walk out of the door, thats when I stepped in an asked the cab driver how much it would cost to take this man home? The cab driver told me that it would take $35 the get him home give or take a few dollars! All I had to my name was $55 dollars in my pocket and I gave the cab driver $40 to take the Asian man home to his family. The Asian man thanked me as he wiped the tears from his blacken eyes and badly bruised face I told him you're most welcome God Bless you... I stepped back and watched him walk towards the cab to go home to his family. I was moved to do it by something and I didn't feel bad or regretful after I did it even though I get sick of seeing people begging for this or for that all the time, I just did it then put my wallet back in my pocket and continued my journey towards transfusion services. Leaving the hospital I made it to my van, put the dolly into it and closed the door before a nurse walked up to me and said thank you for what you did, we were all watching and hoping that someone would help that man and you did! He was badly beaten as you could clearly see and he checked himself out of the hospital against our advice and at that point we were powerless to help him in any way because it would have cost us our jobs even if we used our own money. I told her that had that been me I would wish that someone would do the same for me, because it brothered me greatly to see that man begging to go home to his family and it appeared to fall own deaf ears, on Fathers Day..... The Nurse said that everyone was watching, hoping and praying that someone would help him because we couldn't and God does answer prayers. I felt like I made a difference that day.

He reminds me that He is my source and not my job. He restores my sanity everyday and guides my decisions that I might honor Him in all that I do. Even though I face absurd amounts of e-mails, system crashes, unrealistic deadlines, budget cutbacks, gossiping co-workers, discriminating supervisors and an aging body that doesn't cooperate every morning, I still will not stop---for He is with me! His presence, His peace, and His power will see me through. He raises me up, even when they fail to promote me. He claims me as his own even when the company threatens to let me go. His Faithfulness and love is better than any bonus check. His retirement plan beats any 401k there is! When it's all said an done, I'll be working for Him a whole lot longer and for that, I BLESS HIS NAME!!!!!!
Hi Folks, This year will be a very special year for the Beatthetrain rides. Not only is it our fourth year running weekly Saturday morning bike rides from Historic Fort Wayne but we are really excited about the ride and all the opportunities to volunteer and have fun. One of the fun things is our weekly tire raffle. You will have the chance to win the "official" set of tires of the BTT Ride. Please be present for more info. The rides will start at 6am Saturday April 5th when security opens the gates of the fort for bikers only. The riders will leave the gates of the fort at 6:30 am sharp. No exceptions! Please remember its easier to be 20 minutes early then 2 minutes late. There is no "15 minute rule". This year because of the progression of the ride there will be a new set of "rules" never before heard of on the BTT ride. These will be made available weekly before each ride. The ride will include several route changes and variations due to construction and other projects happening around our city. Because of the Gateway Project I-75 from the north will not be available. Please take I-94 to the Livernois exit then south as far as you can til you reach the gates of the fort. From the Downriver area I-75 is still a good option as long as you exit Livernois and not further. We would also like to invite anyone to join us at the Fort for the Fort Wayne Work Days. We are having one on the 5th so even if you do not plan on riding you can still come and help out during the work day. BTT has been helping the Coalition with clean up projects and specifically keeping our parking lot clean and safe. For a list of service opportunities at the Fort please refer to the Coalition website. As always thanks so much for all the support BeatthetraininDetroit has received from the past years and we look forward to seeing old friends and always making new ones. Please come prepared and represent your cycling group for this special ride. This year will be a good time to find out what all the early morning excitement is all about! See you soon!
