Holiday Candle Safety in Your Middlesex & Mercer County NJ Condo

Posted

More festive candles are used in your Middlesex & Mercer County NJ condo during the holidays than at any other time of year, so it's important to review the safety rules. Here are few tips to keep your condo safe: Candle Placement Preparation It may sound silly, but you need to prepare before you light that candle. First figure out where you want to place the candle in your Middlesex & Mercer County NJ condo. Find a heat resistant surface. Make sure there aren't any books, papers, curtains, or bedding nearby. Watch out for flammable holiday decorations. Keep the candle away from windows and vents, and check for signs of a draft. Place the candle where children and pets can't reach and where it isn't likely to be bumped into. Getting Ready to Light the Candle Before burning the candle, review the manufacturer's instructions. Most recommend that the wick be trimmed to inch before lighting. Make sure to use only approved candle holders. Using an unapproved glass holder could cause it to burst and send glass everywhere. Place candles at least three inches apart so the additional heat doesn't cause them to melt improperly. Burning the Candle Now that the candle is lit, make sure to never leave it unattended. Watch the candle to see if it smokes or flickers a lot. This could be a sign that the candle isn't burning properly. Leave about two inches of wax when you extinguish the candle. Most manufacturers recommend that you don't burn the candle all the way down. Putting the Candle Out Safely The safest way to put out a candle is with a candle snuffer. Don't use your fingers or blow out the candle; the flame may travel and cause a fire. Never use water to put out a candle; the wax may splatter and burn you. Wait until the wax is cooled before you move the candle. Candles are a beautiful way to decorate for the holidays in your Middlesex & Mercer County NJ condo. By following these simple safety suggestions, you can help to ensure that your holidays are happy and safe. If you'd like to be in a new condo before the next holiday rolls around, I can help. 9-11 Moment of Silence

Posted

Where were you 9-11-2001?

I remember exactly where I was on that day. Most of us living on the Northeast Coast particularly us in New Jersey can answer in detail, even six years later.

I was at work about to go in a meeting but we ended up in front of a television instead watching as the horror of that day unfolded. We watched the towers fall and knew a sadness and an angry that so many innocents died.

I don't think I will ever forget.

Joe Zawinul Dies at 75

Posted

It is always hard when an old friend dies to think you won't be able to interact with them again, but when it is someone you have only known through his music, well that feels as much like a loss as any other.

Joe Zawinul, one of the creators of Jazz Fusion and one of the innovators who helped bring the electric piano and the synthesizer into mainstream jazz has joined some of the other Jazz greats touring among the angels. Joe played with greats like Cannonball Adderley, Mayard Ferguson, Dinah Washington, and Miles Davis.

Rip in Peace Joe. We who enjoyed your time on Earth will keep an ear to the heavens while listening to your legacy.

Luciano Pavarotti Dies at 71

It is always a sad thing when some dies the to the immediate family the sense of loss is often overwhelming but when they have had to share their loved one with an international audience the outpouring of sympathy can help change the focus to a life well lived rather than the passing.

Luciano Pavarotti spent his life making operas accessible to the common man. He leant his tenor voice and talent for blending genres to hundreds of singers including: Barry White, U2, Bono, Queen, Ricky Martin, and James Brown. Take a listen here to see two great perfomers who are making music for the angels now, but left us these memories...

Households Change What You Should Know

Posted

A recent report by the Census Bureau say American households will be vastly different by the year 2010. And that means out housing needs will change too.

The report, the first by the Bureau in ten years, projects that within a few years about three out of five American families will include no children under the age of 18. About half the families in the U.S. have no children at home now.

The change in family size will take place because baby boomers, the large population bubble born at the end of World War II, are approaching retirement age, ant that mean fewer families of child-bearing age.

Right now, there are well over 6 million people between the ages of 45 and 64 who are living alone, but by 2010 the number will rise to 10.5 million. Many single parents will find themselves living alone because their children have grown up and left home.

Demographers say that our maturing population will bring about an increase in retirment communities, more condominiums, more one-story homes, and homes with smaller easier to maintain yards. but these home may well be more luxurious and have more amenities.

And the move to smaller homes won't lessen the demand for larger homes. Most really large homes boughtnowa re owned by affluent empty-nest couples who have taken equity from their old houses to purchase bigger, better homes.

A Visit with Luther

Every once in a while a voice comes along that is just so smooth and clear that all you can do is stop and listen. Luther Vandross had just such a voice. It has survived him and probably will be a talent that will have fans for many generations of future music lover. Hope you enjoy the visit.

Trenton Jazz Festival

Posted

It is that time of year again folks! The Trenton Jazz Festival is on September 15th this year and they have a spectacular line up. Of course my favorite is Peabo Bryson who is in the Norman Brown Summer Storm Tour with Jeff Lorber and Marion Meadows this year. Also appearing are Morris Day and the Times, Boney James and Rachael Ferrell. I go early hit the vendors then find a place to sit and let the jazz work its way through my soul. It is an outdoor festival and the weather usually cooperates but rain or shine the one day festival is a lot of fun.

Find more information about the festival here.

ATV's: Is it time to Require a License?

Posted

The number of people being killed while out on the vehicles is increasing. Now while I would like to believe common sense would prevail and people with little or no understanding of the laws of physics would not be able to get there hands on one of these, the truth is it falls under the recreation vehicle category and many parents don't see the danger until it is too late. As the of people killed nationally is increasing. Frankly, if an adult wants risk having a quarter ton rollover on them hopefully the extra experience the few gives them will prevent a fatality but allowing children some as young as 12 years old access to these machines would seem to be courting trouble. One wonders if requiring a driver's license to use the things would have saved the more than 2170 children since 1982 while at play?
