Viva Mexico!

Posted

At the end of last summer, I decided to hit the beaches of Mexico for a quick vacation with some of my chicas. I have been to Mexico before, but this was the best trip fo sho. My girl still hasn't given me her photos, but here are some of the ones from my camera.

This was the resort we were staying at with an amazing view. The lagoon pool and blue beaches weren't bad either, LOL.

You know how I do!

The first night we went out, we saw this. LOL! We knew we weren't in the U.S. anymore!

We went out to a few places while there with girls dancing half naked. Where were the half naked men?!

Look how blue the sky is. I want to be there now, haha.

I got incognito. Nobody knew I was a tourist after this! ;)

Mexico was really fun. It was fairly cheap to get and stay there and it didn't take too long to fly there. But I was born for the beach and that was an incredible beach.

Holla.

P.s. I heard from some of you that you are unable to see my friend's video on that site since it loads sooo slow. I figured I would just embed it here. This should work (fingers crossed).

Vote for my friend!

Wow. It has been a long time since I have blogged on here...over a year (it's been that long?!), ya'll. Well, please forgive my absence. I have been doing a lot of traveling, as usual. It has mostly been press work though, so not a lot of free time, but I loved it nonetheless. I will try to dig up some photos to post when I get a second. Anyway, remember my photographer friend Eby in NYC?

He was in some of my first blogs. Well, he is applying to that Best Job in the World thing. You may have heard of it. You get to be the Island Caretakers for the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef. His video was approved and he is up against 30k others. What I am asking of you all is to watch his video and rate it 5 stars.

Watch it here!

The rating right now will just help it get noticed, so I will be asking ya'll to vote again after March 2nd, when it really does count...assuming that he actually makes the top 50, LOL. That is where you come in. Please help him get noticed so that he can get this job and I can go visit him! He is actually pretty funny. Here is his fake blog he made for the job.

Thanks so much, peoples. TTYL

DR...My Warm Getaway

Posted

Hola! It's your girl Trish again. I recently wanted to escape the cold for a bit, so American Airlines flew me down to the Dominican Republic. I have been back to Haiti many times, but have never ventured across the island to our neighbor. I finally decided to go. It was a quick (and smooth) direct flight and the view was hot when we were descending. I went to Santo Domingo and Santiago for an amazing week in the sun. I went with one of my girlfriends and we had a blast. Check out my photos below:

This is the entrance to the National Monument. I was told that it was originally built by the former dictator, Trujillo, to honor himself, but then it was converted into a monument in honor of the heroes who fought in the War of Restauracion. That was the war where the country regained its independence after 4 years of Spanish rule. It ended in 1965.

This is the monument. My legs were so wobbly by the time I got up those stairs. LOL. Apparently the statue on the top is the only remaining statue of Trujillo in the country.

This is a pantheon where they buried all the founding fathers of the Dominican Republic. It is in Santo Domingo. You could tell how old it was from the condition of the walls.

Here is some beautiful art on the ceiling in the pantheon. Muy Bonito!

I saw this truck from out my hotel window and HAD to get a photo before there was a green light. I think it was delivering plantains. It looked pretty ridiculous, but I wouldn't mind some of those plantains fried for dinner. YUM!

This is an area that they were developing. I guess those mountains won't be there for much longer...

Bye, Mountains! :(

We were walking down the street and saw these guys picking something from a tree...

Turns out they were picking these tropical fruits called guayabas. I didn't get to try theirs, LOL, but I did get to try some another time and they are sooo good. I can definitely say that fruit in the Caribbean tastes sooo much better than it does in the US!

This was our tour guide's back yard! Imagine having a backyard like that!!!

This little kid was a HUGE flirt! He followed me around all night at this place we ate at (a restaurant in someone's home). He was smiling at me the WHOLE TIME...until I tried to take a picture of course. :p

We went to a couple beaches when we were there. This one was called Boca Chica and was located in Santo Domingo. It was a bit overcast, but the water was super clear.

Just me, chillin'...

You could see the mountains on the horizon from the beach. Breath-taking!

Strike a pose! Sometimes I can be quite the diva...at least my girl used flash on this one. You should have seen the other shot she took (I looked like a silhouette).

There were a lot of boats floating around...I think people took their boats to the beach from those houses in the distance.

This was the other beach that we went to...I don't remember the name, but the weather was amazing. (Yes, this one was touched up in Photoshop, but you know, I had to come proper!)

I wish I were there now...(daydreaming)

Well, that is a photo journal of my trip (minus the nightlife). It was such a well-deserved vacation. Thanks American Airlines!!!

Speaking of, there isn't much time left, everyone. So enter the Travel Photo Contest and win a trip for yourselves.

Until next time,

Ni Hao - China pt. 2

While in Beijing, we definitely had to go see the Great Wall! We ended up taking a bus out there and having to walk pretty far to get to it (good thing I wore my sneakers), but once we got there, it was sooo worth it. The view was amazing!

Yes, those are all people walking on the wall. It was very crowded. This is just part of the Great Wall. It is over four thousand miles long!!!

The Wall wasn't just one straight line, it zigzags through the mountains. I'm not sure what I was pointing at.

There were lots of vendors on the wall selling all kinds of things. These were little guys that you can make "pee pee." LOL. The lady selling these kept yelling, "Pee Pee Buddha, Pee Pee Boy, Pee Pee Pig!" ROTFL!!!

This guy was etching images of the Great Wall into slabs of marble. It was amazing how fast he did it.

There was a lot of Chinese graffiti on the wall. Some looked ancient and others looked pretty fresh. You would be hard pressed to find a brick without some. I kinda wanted to do one myself if I only knew how. LOL

I tried to get creative with this photo through a hole in the Wall. You can see a HUGE billboard that they put up promoting the Olympics, which are going to be in Beijing next summer.

The last day there we just hung around our hotel and just explored a bit. There were a lot of these megaphones that just had a Chinese woman's voice blaring something in Chinese. I have no idea what she was saying, but my ears were ringing after getting this pic right in front of it. LOL

There were a bunch of odd vehicles around Beijing, but everyone repped their own styles proper. This guy had a real "mini-van" LOL!!! I think it only fit one person.

These two were stylin' on this bike. I wanted to jump out of the cab and get in their sidecar. They looked like they were on a missions, and I wanted in!

Then there was this guy. LOL

We went that night to The Old City, which is where there are a lot of shops for my favorite thing SHOPPING! LOL. At most places you can haggle to get the best price, walking away always makes them come down on the price. This place does not do that, though. Smart, haha.

They even had a tattoo parlor there.

I saw this phoenix crest on some wall and thought that is was beautiful.

Look: china! ROTFL!!! I crack myself up sometimes. LOL

Beijing was amazing and I never thought I would get to go there. I saw so many great sites and had an experience I won't soon forget. I recommend that all of you should go. You won't regret it.

Merry Christmas, ya'll! Until next time

~Trish~

P.s. 10 days left to enter the Travel Photo Contest on my page!

Ni Hao - China pt. 1

Posted

Ni Hao! This past August I went on a trip to Beijing, China with my brother. He always wanted to go and couldn't find anyone to go with him. I wanted to go, but didn't know if I should. He finally convinced me and it was all-good from there. The flight was long, but totally worth it. We flew to Shanghai directly on American Airlines, then we transferred to one of their partner flights to Beijing. I thought that since it was such a long flight, it would be mad uncomfortable, but it actually went really smooth and I slept like a baby most of the way. LOL. The flight attendant was super nice and we would chat between my naps. After all those hours together in the air, we became good friends. We exchanged emails and I still talk to her to this day! Anyway, here are some photos from our trip:

First off, driving is crazy in Beijing. This is a car coming right at us in our lane! Very scary...

The supermarkets have so many flavors and colors of any type of food or drink you can think of. I can't find the pic but they had shrimp chips that said on the package: "My favorite. I love them." LOL

They also have these cute little characters on most of the food packages. Random, but I liked them a lot.

Yes, that is a tomato drinking a Coke from a straw! ROTFL

And a Coke display made out of GIANT head of lettuce. LOL

We decided to go to the Forbidden City on our second day. This was the outside of it. The whole palace was surrounded by huge walls. The Forbidden City was the royal palace from mid-Ming Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty. The place was so HUGE that we went back a 3rd day too!

I noticed that people in China really like to wear Mickey Mouse clothing. I think they call Mickey Mouse Mi Lao Shu there. I like how their eyes are X's, haha.

There were a lot of tourists there, mostly Chinese.

If you look closely, you can see some guy in a suit chillin' in the building. Found you, Waldo. LOL

There were lots of sculptures on the walls and roofs. They were mostly dragons.

This was the king's throne mad fancy.

This was a huge sculpture that went up that whole flight of stairs. Everyone was trying to get photos in front of it (as you can see they got in mine!). This was taken on the second day coming here, according to my outfit.

There were lots of animal sculptures. They all looked like dragons to me, but I guess this one was a dog.

I think this was a dog too? LOL

They would burn incense in this elephant. It was hollow and the smoke would come out of that hole by the top of its trunk.

This turtle was my favorite . They would burn incense in this one too.

Here is an ancient sundial. I don't know if I just don't know how to read these, or if it was just turned wrong because it was not 8pm, LOL.

The Forbidden City was so beautiful. It took all of both days to walk around it, but I loved it!

One day, we decided to go to the famous Tiananmen Square. It is the huge square in the middle of some government buildings where some famous protests and such went down. Tiananmen stands for Gate of Heavenly Peace.

Walking over there we saw this police car not caring about people walking, just driving right through pedestrian walk ways. What did I tell you about driving here? LOL

I saw a bunch of these brooms lying on sidewalks. I guess people make them from branches to help keep the sidewalks clean. I wish I could have brought one home.

Chinese versions of the drinks back home.

They were getting ready for the evening lowering of the flag ceremony that happens every day at sunset.

The Chinese flag is very pretty and red. LOL

That is Mao Zedong. He was the revolutionary that made China into a major power, but also made it into a Communist country. You will see photos of him all over Beijing.

That night we went to some restaurant that had a bunch of performers, from bands, to belly dancers, to traditional Chinese dancers. We noticed that they were lighting fireworks a couple tables over from us. LOL. I think it was their birthday or something, but I was shocked that wasn't against the fire code or something, ROTFL!

I will post more real soon. Next: The Great Wall.
