Black Women in particular need to realize that the stats are against us. A lot of our men are either gay, on the DL, in jail, which leaves the men that are in our communities and consider themselves as heterosexual men knowing their odds are 18-24 Black Women to every one Black Man, and since Black Women are more prone to stay within their race, we endure abuse, manipulation, numerous STDs including HIV/AIDS and everything associated with being with a Black Man THAT has the 18-24 mentality. PLEASE DO NOT MISUNDERSTAND ME. I am not stating that all Black Men in our communities are like this or have the 18-24 mentality, because I personally know many wonderful and real Black Men, but I am stating that we have MANY that do have the 18-24 mentality, which makes it too many. We will never be able to get rid of diseases such as HERPES, SYPHILIS, GONORRHEA, CHLAMYDIA, HPV or HIV/AIDS amongst us if we don't wake up. Black Women, this is a SISTER that is infected with HIV because my Black Man chose not to do the right thing. PLEASE do not sit back and develop the mentality of that's you and not me, because I once upon a time had the same " THAT'S YOU AND NOT ME MENTALITY" and look where I am NOW! Don't let what happen to me happen to you. I am fighting to help save your life, not because I have to, but because you are a BEAUTIFUL, WONDERFUL, WORTH IT, OVERACHIEVING GIFT FROM GOD. BLACK AMERICA TAKE HEED AND LISTEN UP!!!!

We are acquiring a disease to which there is no known cure for at alarming rates. It is estimated that every 10 minutes a new person is being infected with the HIV virus. 

Black America represents 12% of the U.S. population, and out of that percentage, an estimated 47% of the persons living with HIV are Black/African American.

After approximately 28 years into the AIDS epidemic, HIV infection continues to reign in the United States, but now instead of it just being known as a gay man’s disease, it has a new title… Black/African American Heterosexuals. Recent data informs us that Black America heterosexuals, gay and bisexual men of all races are the severely affected populations with HIV.

In my beloved City of Philadelphia, in 2006, an estimated 1,400 new HIV infections occurred amongst our residents. That was about 1 new infected person every 8 hours then and the stats have gotten worse since then.  Do you know the stats in your City?

My infection came as a surprise to a lot of people, but especially to me as I let my guard down with a man I now know that I should have never trusted but thought at the time I could. A hard life lesson? YES. It’s one that is being repeated too many times and is causing too many people to be infected with HIV and other diseases.

HIV INFECTS EVERYONE, NO ONE IS SAFE FROM IT. Not your children, your spouse, your girlfriend or your boyfriend. If you answer YES to any of these questions, GET TESTED, KNOW YOUR STATUS, SAVE YOUR LIFE AND POSSIBLY THE LIFE OF SOMEONE ELSE!

Have you injected drugs or steroids or shared equipment (such as needles, syringes works) with others?

Have you had unprotected vaginal, anal, or oral sex with multiple partners or anonymous partners?

Have you been diagnosed with or treated for hepatitis, tuberculosis (TB), or a sexually transmitted disease (STD), like herpes or syphilis?

HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus. This is the virus that causes AIDS. HIV is different from most other viruses because it attacks the immune system. The immune system gives our bodies the ability to fight infections. HIV finds and destroys a type of white blood cell (T cells or CD4 Cells) that the immune system must have to fight disease.

AIDS stands for acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. AIDS is the final stage of HIV infection. It can take years for a person infected with HIV, even without treatment, to reach this stage. Having AIDS means that the virus has weakened the immune system to the point where the body has a difficult time fighting infection.

WHY would you want to go through this?  Take it from a person who wish she didn't have to go through this.  WRAP IT UP, GET TESTED and ALWAYS KNOW YOUR STATUS!  It only takes one time to be infected.

I am so mad, I am so very scared and I am so disappointed in/at my Black Man.

Black men why do you cheat? Don't you know that the beautiful black women that you AFFECT when you are cheating can become INFECTED due to poor choices you make? Don't you realize that the pleasure you seek in other women b/c you THINK you are missing something from the Black Woman you proclaim to LOVE, can lead to a lifetime of hurt and even death, not only for YOU but for the Black Woman you proclaim to LOVE as well.

Why not love and be HAPPY with the ONE Black Woman you proclaim you LOVE so much. Why not SEEK in her what you seek in other women that may be, in your eyes, more attractive and appeasing, when actually, she is not, and you find out later, after you have hurt the one you proclaim you LOVE, that all that beauty you found on the outside that enticed you, was not what it was all cracked up to be. Why not realize what you have NOW instead of LATER, when its too late.

I am not a Black Man basher nor do I put my Black Men down. I ask that you PLEASE think before you make a decision that will not only hurt you but hurt the one you proclaim you LOVE as well.

I am HIV positive b/c of a POOR decision my Black Man made not to wrap it up as he was having nights of pleasure with another woman, who in turn carried the HIV virus that INFECTED us all.

I am a woman who loved her Black Man wholeheartedly. One that encouraged, motivated and stood by him to no end. What did I do to deserve this, besides LOVE my Black Man, NOTHING. Black Women are always getting the bad repore about us not sticking by our men. If our Black Men only knew how much we stuck by them, we as a culture would be so much more advanced than where we are now.

God willingly this will be one of many subjects I will post on BP regarding HIV/AIDS with a response via negative or positive from you.
