His fever would not go down but the cool wet cloths placed on Mike's forehead brought him some relief. He lay staring at his father's blood smeared cap resting on the nightstand next to his bed. He was glad the cap gave some shielding for Michelle when his blood was splattered on her earlier on. Mike ached allover but the numbness in his right arm caused him the most discomfort. When they returned back to his house, Michelle did a good job cleansing and bandaging his gory stump of an arm. She lay next to him passed out from exhaustion and worry. She shouldered him back to the house without stopping whenever she could avoid it. Occasionally, an over-confident individual tried to test her, thinking she was vulnerable because of Mike's well being. As expected, the foolhardy person who did attack her received an equal amount of pain and shame. Mike could still smell the light scent of burning flesh on Michelle and his clothing.
