We the People....Posted
America's 1st African American President Barack Obama is the 44th President Elect
As i sit in the bed listening to music, it bothers me about all the different comments that are being made in regards to our new Pres. Elect Barack Obama. As a product of the new millennium, an era where "racism" doesn't exist anymore, women are considered "equal', and the under-privelaged are given the opportunity to live "comfortably" what's the problem? It's embarrassing to see that many of the negative comments made are from those who I've grown up with, went to school with, worked beside, claimed friendship, etc. I usually don't speak up much about others opinions (because everyone is entitled to one) but when your wrong your wrong! So I'd like to address some of the things that have been bothering me.....
1. Is B-A-R-A-C-K even an American name? As a nation comprised of many different races and ethnicities, since the beginning of our rural existence, nothing or no one can rightfully wear the brand of "AMERICAN". From our 1st history class we've been taught to think of AMERICA as a melting pot of many different people. Further meaning that we all came from somewhere else, whether by will or by force, to colonize on the New Land. If anyone is going to wear the brand "AMERICAN" it's only right to give that to the ones who were here before us....Native Americans! Not the British, English, or Spanish. Africans didn't earn the right to be considered until 1863; before then they were categorized by number, normally left namelesss, under sharecroppers as slaves. So unfortunately, they didn't count....Who are you to question the context of anybody's name? Do your research before you pass judgement! It's been noted in plenty of different articles throughout the entire campaign that BARACK OBAMA was named after his father, a Kenyan government economist, but was raised in AMERICA, making him and everything about him "AMERICAN". Why not question why Sarah Palins kids have some of the strangest names? (Trak and Trig...are we in advanced math class?) Oh wait, because she didn't win. Don't dig for reasons to dislike, accept the inevitable that your Robin Hood fairy tale has come to an abrupt end!
2. Why is Obama being called black when he's actually mixed. I thought we moved away from the "one drop rule" in this country...right? Since when, he moment the polls showed that McCain was blown out the water? Get real! Just like Tiger Woods was deemed "black" until he won the PGA tournament where he suddenly became "Cablinasian", BARACK OBAMA was "black" until he made history by becoming the 1st African American Pres. Elect, oops my bad, he's bi-racial! Is it that hard to give credit when it's due? African Americans have had to fight to prove themselves worthy since we gained rights. And have done a pretty damn good job, if I have to say so myself! At the moment of creation, a label of race is given...unfortunately, because of enslavement, anyone bi-racial with one drop of Jew or African, has been given the scarlet letter of minority! A minority which now includes Hispanic's. On every application in our life we've had to choose between the two, only allowing ourselves to pick the obvious. I wonder what his birth certificate says? A certificate that certifies his existence in this world, has to say one of the 2. When he was born "other" was not an option. And because of the pigment of his skin, regardless of his white mother, he was more than likely categorized under the African American race. Since we're talking about the one-drop rule, and it's non-existence, then help me out with a few people. Halle Berry: classified "black"...reality: white mother/black father, Mariah Carey: classified "black"....reality: Irish-American mother/African-American Venezuelan father; the "one-drop rule" still applies to them!
3. Barack Obama shouldn't have won because of his economic plan.... An economic that effects less than 1% of Americans in general, and focuses on the common man, regardless of any race/gender/ethnicity/religion/or classification. Why are you so angry that within his economic plan, he's going to target businesses and those with substantial wealth? Both in which receive weekly, monthly, and annual residuals that have yet to trickle back to us. If you use your head, you will realize that this is for the benefit of us, not to punish us! Is it gonna hurt Bill Gates that he's getting taxed more? Doubt it! He's doesn't feel the wrath of the recession! Hasn't lost his house, doesn't have to worry about putting food on the table, or any of the common issues that have more recently surfaced because of the recession that your lovely President Bush has happily placed us in. But you voted for him. You argue against it, but how close are you to standing in the in $250,000 income range? Not that close, when the average salary is $60k a year or less. Pick an argument that's gonna effect you directly. Think as a majority, because 9 times out of 10, you are far from it.
4. Barack Obama doesn't deserve the Presidency.... Why? There is no arguable reason why he shouldn't. His campaign alone accumulated record numbers of supporters. The number of registered voters increased to a record high. And as demonstrated on Tuesday; majority of America voted in his favor. With that said, let's remind of his extensive qualifications....Graduated from Columbia University, attained a Harvard Law Degree, was the president of the Harvard Law Review (a journal of legal scholarship), is a seasoned civil rights attorney (he knows what he's talking about), taught law after that at the University of Chicago Law School, and was obviously a successful senator of Illinois. On top of that, he's under 50! Now can you honestly tell me that if these credentials were listed on John James' resume, you wouldn't have elected him as your upcoming president. No! Barack Obama was not elected because he was "black", he was elected because he was the better candidate that just so happened to be "black".
*Please dont discredit race as an issue, because although it had nothing to do with the presidential race, it can not be ignored*
Good Night!
