We’ve been in Obama overdose mode, charmed by his swag, speech, and supremacy. But now that the man is officially in office (pinch me), it’s time to take a look at some of his team—the specially selected few that will spearhead his efforts for the next four (but hopefully eight) years.
One of Mr. Obama’s many mentors, she has been the most longstanding, as the two met years ago, when as a corporate attorney (the Chief of Staff in the Daley Administration), Jarrett hired a certain Ivy-Leaguer—our First Lady Michelle. She’s been coaching the couple ever since. Plus, the Stanford and University of Michigan Law School grad has got maverick in her blood; her great-grandfather was the first African-American to graduate from M.I.T., her grandfather the first black man to head the Chicago Housing Authority, and her father the first black resident at St. Luke’s Hospital. Who wouldn’t want that kind of brainpower on their team? Check out the rest of the ladies here: http://giant.blackplanet.com/point-of-view/ladies-first-in-obamas-staff/
With Barack Obama as the fresh face leading the charge in Washington, the same can be said about Keri Hilson and her foray into the R&B world. Currently starring alongside Lil Wayne, T-Pain, and Gym Class Heroes on the “I Am Music” tour, Ms. Hilson sat down with GIANT to discuss the inauguration of our new president.
GIANT: What does Obama’s presidency mean to you? Keri Hilson: It means a lot, it really does stand for hope. I remember being a kid in elementary school and there was always some black kid who was really studious, made great grades, and would probably be qualified to be the future President of the United States. But the teacher would say, “What do you wanna be when you grow up?” and he would say

She celebrated her 45th birthday in a vintage train car, amid balloons and crepe-paper streamers, and cheering crowds serenaded her by name. She danced in front of the Lincoln Memorial to Stevie Wonder’s “Higher Ground” with her husband and daughters clapping by her side. She assembled care packages for soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, and, in this long, whirlwind weekend, marveled that she would soon be the public face of America’s first family. On Inauguration Day, Michelle Obama will become the first African-American to assume the role of first lady, a woman with the power to influence the nation’s sense of identity, its fashion trends, its charitable causes and its perceptions of black women and their families. Already, the outlines of her style and public agenda have begun to emerge. Read more @ http://hellobeautiful.blackplanet.com/your-world/hints-of-agenda-and-tone-for-new-first-lady/

I came across a news story on NewsOne about the top ten Ideas for Change on Obama's site, which are user generated and allows visitors to vote on the best concepts and ideas. The number one idea is to legalize weed! I know it's something a lot of people would want. It's something discussed in the barber shops and beauty shops of the hood across America. But I still cannot believe that on this site, with all the other positve proposals about improving education and things like that that THIS is the NUMBER 1 idea.
