At the first sips the wine was powerful, offering dark strawberries and round, refreshing acidity. My first meal centered on a dry, honey and garlic sesame-barbecued pulled chicken sandwich. The liquid darkened and became metallic. When paired with the side dish of a Tuscan three bean medley containing sundried tomatoes the drink presented sharp, refreshing acidity. It was long. The other accompaniment was an eggplant salad with lots and lots of mayonnaise that really muted the wine. The meal terminated with fresh honeydew. Our New Yorker became dark and almost brooding.
