Black Youth Vote is the name of the National Coalition's youth division. Back in 1996 when we were almost youth ourselves we wanted to be specific but we wern't sure of the punctuation. For a few years it really was Black Youth Vote? By 2004 Black youth out voted all other youth and today our elders are commenting all over the nation about how proud they are of all of the young people in line to vote. We were a little worried but my daughter convinced me that the O Generation would turn out. She said they are waiting to make history "on a history making day". Now they are reciting the poem "Rosa sat so that Martin could march, Martin marched so that Jesse could run, and Jesse ran so that Obama could win." That is catchy but even better is to eavesdrop on a youth conversation and hear them planning Next Steps. They will come together and host a Black Youth Vote Conference next week at the NEA. The have outlined an agenda: the economy (jobs), tuition (student debt), environment (climate change), ending the wars (Iraq & Afghanistan), and criminal justice. Not only did they show up, vote, volunteer, now they are planning their next steps to hold the Administration accountable. Black Youth Vote! Indeed FeliciaD

The dormant power, that resides within every black person, is waiting for the proper channels to be activated so that it can become active again. Therefore, you must exercise through meditation, proper diet, discipline and certain daily rituals, which will attune you with your natural supreme state in which you were created.

Some people were still talking about there vote want count , but i didn't want to hear that and would not stop calling and even went by there house.Every vote counted, so we old folks did our part too and i loved seeing so many young voters.

I am pleased to see the involvement and commitment of the young people and older people akin; however, why did it take a man of color (he is African paternally and Caucasian maternally) to instigate the registration, determination, and participation of the African-American populace to come alive. I pray that President-elect Obama brings a sense of the American dream to those whom have never tasted it, a sense of unity for a country that has never reached it, and a sense of pride and respect of race to a country that never teaches it. Let America understand that being a melting pot does not endorse that African-American existence is not! Be proud, aware, and educated in this time--for it is fundamental that people of color stand together representing the true America and the dream of Dr M L King and so many that preceded us. Congratulations President-elect Obama and First lady Michelle. Congratulations America--To all those of color--let us represent with humility & dignity, as we keep the dream alive! Yes, this is history--let us make it a positive and memorable one for the generations to follow and for our children to know that nothing, absolutely nothing forbade them from reaching and attaining any vision that they aspire to dream!
