Israel vs Gaza: 900 to 13 and Counting

Posted

All this talk of a proportionate response and Israel defending itself seems to be off the mark by the numbers. If a man hits you and you beat up his whole family is that proportionate response? Is shooting a man for throwing a rock at your window defending yourself? Reuters reports that as of today, more than 900 Palestinians have been killed, including 382 civilians. This is comparison to 13 Israeli’s who have been killed, including 3 civilians. It is estimated that 40% of all the Gaza casualties have been civilians . From 2005 through 2007 there were 86 Israeli’s killed, 8 of which were civilians, meaning less than 10% of all Israeli’s killed during the time were civilians. Barack Obama was on ABC’s this week and reiterated his statement “If somebody was sending rockets into my house where my two daughters sleep at night, I would do everything to stop that, and would expect Israel to do the same thing.”

Dig this here, you don't throw a rock at a guy trying to start a fight if you see he has a machine gun in his hand. ...and if your family happens to be standing beside you when he shoot back at you, then yes.. they get hit too! Don't start the f*ckin fight if you're afraid of being hit back! You can't hit me and tell me how I can hit you back. I will hit you back however the heck I want to, and thats what's happening now!

All of the comments have very valid points. In response to the question about me being hit or me having a rock thrown thru my window, sounds like disproportionate comparison to me.

Mister said it right don't even think you can hit me then dictate rules as to how I respond. As far as attacking my home well, there's a level not many domestic attackers are willing to go to.
A person attacks my home I feel they have no respect for the sanctity and safety of my family and they will only escalate their attacks until I end their entire bloodline.

For me, is it our business as to how they fight their battles? This is one of Americas problems as a government. We keep sticking our nose into other countries business and try and dictate how they live and operate.

Our country is having a hard enough time keeping up with our own constitution. We have our own homeless and hungry, our own violence, our own syndicated crime within the government. I haven't even gotten to the subject or racism and gender discrimination.

I feel that we need to clean the glass that surrounds our own home/country before we go throwing our "rocks" into another's.

i'd like 2 add that many of this posts respondents are ignorant to the history of isreal...the ppl of isreal are not from this area of the world...only a handful of them are true asiatic mezerahi hebrews...the rest are of European descent and set up a state with the help of the british after the holocaust ...THIS CONFLIC IS FROM 1948...and is NOT from the biblical days...

I think it' important to understand that we are talking about a government, not an individual. Isreal absolutly has the right to defend itself, but with constraints.

Isreal has the right to defend itself againest its enamy, but it does not have the right to annialate them.

I agree with Mr. BIG. Israel has a right to defend itself. These flareups appear to always begin with a very violent Palestinian Hate group and its many sympathizers. Israel is outnumbered on all sides by people of Arabic ancestry. I have rarely heard of these Islamic countries taking in those Palestinian refugees other than to place them in border camps which is worse than living in the Palestinian controlled areas. These countries do however give great amounts of weapons and ammunition to these groups to fight a war they can not win but it does make good s and thins out the number of Palestinian populace one day making them easier to control. It also alleviates the headache of dealing with an unwanted refugee population. If the people of Palestine want what they think is their land then do it like the Israeli people did build an army and kick %#&@$!. I know the excuse "Israel is backed by America". So what! Palestine has the super rich Aribic oil countries. Do you know that these super rich oil kings build islands in the form of a design that can be scene from space. These oil kings alone have the money to finance an army that can stand toe toe toe with the Israeli military and the muscle to make America back down with OIL. I hope that Israel continues the ardent defense of its country. If anything Black Americans should admire and emulate Israel for their tenacity to come together as a people. If we Black Americans could come together in this nation as Israel and defend against the outside negative forces that effect Black America i believe we could then understand Israeli defense Policy.

Hamas has made it clear that they have no desire to live peacefully with or accept or acknowledge Israels right to exist. Their plan is to annilaite them..so what is Israel supposed to do? War is not a game that is played fair, it is played to win.

I am very involved in the underground church in over 40 nations and I am bombarded with images daily of pics and videos from the middle east and parts of Africa where Islamic controlled governments are in control. Nobody is saying anything or even reporting all the African villages which are raided daily (parents killed, little girls taken as concubines, and little boys taken as Arab slaves). I have video footage of little african boys that have been set on fire. I see daily what these people do to their own wives and daughters who dare to think on their own. In Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, many parts of Africa etc etc Muslims commits acts of such atrocious demonic proportion it would chill your blood. Even in public libraries in Saudia Arabia there are books for children that portray Jews as devils. I love the Palestinian people and am in prayer for them BUT...

It is easy to sit here in comfort and safety in America and say what is morally ethical and fair in war when we don't live day to day in fear. Having seen some of the things I have seen, I can understand why Israel would want to exterminate the whole Gaza strip leaving not one soul. I don't agree with this and never would want to see that happen as I have people there that I love but I could understand it.

As African Americans we must understand that we are related to both these people groups as they are indeed brothers (both being descendants of Abraham's sons Isaac & Ishmael). They have been fighting over this land for 2000 years and will be forever fighting until the coming Armageddon.

As long as they are fighting the rest of the world is okay but when a peace agreement is made and there is real peace between the two---then you should be alert for this will usher in the beginning of the end. All of this is inevitable so though we should strive for peace between the two, be very afraid when it happens if you are not in a right relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

I am asking for all of those who are praying men and women to pray for pastor Stephen Khoury and his family and church. He is a Palestinian that owns a Christian church in the middle of Bethlehem. He has been bombed 25 times, beaten up and left for dead in a garbage can, his father shot, some teens in his church shot and killed and constant harrasment form his own people as well as pseudo Christians in the same town who believe they have replaced the Jews as Gods choosen people.(We have not replaced the Jews, we have been grafted onto the vine).
God is no respecter of faces, he loves Palestinians and Jews, and 99% of these Jews are not even religious at all and hate the religious one who refuse to fight.

All this to show you that there are a lot of different dimensions to this thing and all are complex and deep rooted, so you must love the people on both sides without judging based merely on media reports and the view from here.

As a matter of fact, if you want the conflict to end, you do all of the things you mentioned. This is war. It is not a petty difference between 2 people or two countries, even. Proportion response, hell. The Palistenians want to destroy Israel. Should Israel keep giving them a chance to achieve their goal? I think not.

Funny how easy it is to sit here and judge another country's policies..Can you imagine what our reaction would be if Florida or South Carolina were being missiled by some island in our juristidiction. Gaza exsists as a separate entity at Israel's grace as a first step towards Nationhood but only on the condition that she coexsists with Israel..they pulled out of Gaza with the agreement that fatach would keep peace and control terror and agression..this part of the bargain is not being kept..yes Israel should respond full blast. Civilians? sine when has civilian casualty's on either side meant a thing to the hamas or fatach for that matter.? If Gazan authority didnt want their civilains hur they wouldnt be launching missiles from within villages and schools...its a media ploy and in the grand scheme they consider their women children and men as collateral damage..Israel is not evil..there is no "aparteid" as someone so inaccurately called it on here..Arab Israeli citizens have full rights, always have. Palestinians are not israeli citizens nor do they want to be...Peace will come there but it wont be soon and it wont be easy for either side

Impressive article I have to say. What is not mentioned is the fact Hamas and Israel have been funded weapons and equipment by the U.S. and British governments, particularly their intelligence communities. So this means that the U.S. and British governments are not interested in bringing peace to the Middle East. They want Israel and Hamas to keep fighting one another in order to benefit the elite and the rich, while the poor and middle class are dying. Once people realized that, then it would make sense as to why this conflict has been going on for many years.
