Melting in single screw extruders

A good model for the melting of granules in one screw extruder is presented in Part I. It is consistent with observations of earlier workers and retains some of the concepts created by Tadmor in his unit; however, it assumes that the sturdy bed of granules cannot stand significant variances of principal stresses therefore account has to be used explicitly of the downstream force balance on the solid bed and in the melt pool area. Detailed quasi-analytic email address details are offered for a Newtonian fluid in Part II. These illustrate the model for a simple case and also have relevance for a few materials particularly. A more elaborate numerical scheme is going to be described partly III for a non-Newtonian model and results are presented for evaluation with the predictions of various other theories extruder barrel and with experiments.
