Melting in single screw extruders

A good model for the melting of granules within a screw extruder is presented in Part I. It is consistent with observations of previous workers mixer extruder and retains a number of the ideas created by Tadmor in his model; even so, it assumes that the solid bed of granules cannot stand significant variances of principal stresses therefore account has to be used explicitly of the downstream push balance on the sound bed and in the melt pool area. Detailed quasi-analytic results are given for a Newtonian fluid partly II. These illustrate the model for an especially simple case and have relevance for some materials. A far more elaborate numerical scheme is undoubtedly described partly III for a non-Newtonian model and email address details are presented for comparison with the predictions of different theories and with experiments.
