How many of you would consider changing your page?HIV/AIDS Awareness should not be preacy, but for some reason people turn a deaf ear. I am concerned about my people...the ones that reflect some shade of me. My nonprofit has partnered with the National Minority AIDS Council to increase awaress about the impact of HIV/AIDS on low-income black women, and to raise awareness about the vaccine (not cure). As we are a small organization with a non-existent budget, I came up with the idea of getting as many people as possible to create an "internet poster" using one or all of the social networking sites. (www.myspace.com, www.facebook.com, www.blackplanet.com, www.bebo.com) are just a few of the sites that come to mind. I am not asking for any money, I am calling on the power of the internet and asking everybody I know to change their page, or add an HIV Awaress message or prevention message, and leave it up for 24 hours on 02/07/2008. Please consider including things that would interest you. My blackplanet page has already been changed and my myspace page will be updated shortly. On the page I included a fact sheet from the CDC and songs meant to inspire women to love themselves and feel appreciated. The pages will remain the same until 02/08/2009. If you are willing to participate please send me a link to your page so I can print it. These pages are going to serve as examples of how effective nontraditional approaches to community outreach can be.Sincerely, Melva L. Florance, Executive DirectorThe LaStraw
